Hi all,

Strange question: I have a 30 year old convertable running a sony head unit and kenwood amp with a pair of 6x9' s in the back. As I have had 2 head units nicked I would like to replace the amp and head unit with an amp and either my iPod or my P800 or similar MP3 player. Given that the outputs are normally so low that the amp can't cope too well

So in summary - are there any amps that can take a line in from a "normal" MP3 or portable device?

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but have you considered a line driver ? This will 'up' the line voltage to perhaps a more suitable level.

Call me stupid (oi! stupid!) but I have never seen a line driver apart from in *standard* electronics; is there an audio version that can plug into an amp?

you should be able to just use a 3.5mm stereo to 2 phono cable to do this, just be careful with the volume control, too much and you'll break stuff.
