just tried ordering the Terminator extreme ed',but you dont get the currency pulldown menu anymore!!!!Just wondering if i paid using hk dollars ,will it still be cheaper than the english price even with the £1 off voucher?
hopefuly this will only be a temporary block on the hk site(still doesnt work on the .net site either!)
Use http://www.xe.net/ucc/ to convert to sterling remembering to add around 2.5% for the credit card foreign transaction fee ;)

I thought i was going mad!!! I just oredered X-men 1.5 by accident looking for the Pull down!!!!!!
Last time i checked exchanged rate was 12.5HKD-£ so i am hoping it was no more expensive£9.75 at 121.95HKD but their is a CC charge of a few % i think oh well never mind serves me right! thing is i didn't really want it! I could try to cancel it but I'll wait and see.

according to XE.com even with the 2.5% its £9.76 Guess I'll wait till i get the bill and see pity it is a DVD i don't really want:(
Oh well, in any case the exchange rate will be fixed at the exact transaction point so it's hard to predict... luckily though with CC purchases it isn't too bad as the banks use interbank rates + x% which is nearly always better than tourist rates :)

I've ordered a couple of things from wow HK, and the drop down currency converter was present then. Tried tonight, and it had gone.
So, when it was there, were you not charged by your CC if you ordered in UK£s? Haven't had my statement yet, but will be interesting to see. Even so, I still think it would be cheaper than the UK site.
No, if you chose GBP, that's what what you were charged in (no foreign exchange carried out by CC company). That's why it was so good.
Still, good while it lasted ;)

Hold up folks, all is not lost. I e-mailed cd-wow about the missing drop down currency converter, and this is their reply:
Hi Simon,
Thank you for contacting us, and sorry to hear of this.
It seems that there is currently a problem with this feature.
Our IT team are working intently to rectify the problem.
We hope to have the problem sorted out shortly - sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Best Regards,
Martin.

So it seems like it's a temporary glitch!

that's interesting coz it's not cd-wow's part of the site it's worldpay that deal with the transactions
Simon6776
28-05-2003, 6:44 PM
Yes, but it's still on cd-wow's site isn't it? They would have no reason to have given a false statement - if it was WorldPay's fault, they would surely have said so.
Anyway, I don't really care who's problem it is, so long as it's fixed quick.

LOL
I think I'll keep it and maybe trade it for something i want, rather than sell it to you for £5

Good point. Suggest you e-mail them and ask before returning the item. I don't know your reason for return, but they usually send a pre paid bubble pack envelope if it's their mistake. If you're returning it for reasons of your own, then I wouldn't think you could expect them to swallow any extra charges for you.

I've not seen the .net version of cd-wow. Are they Canadian or US dollar prices?
Simon6776
28-05-2003, 10:48 PM
I've not seen the .net version either. Until now. Didn't know there were so many different versions! I would imagine they are US Dollars, as it would be too good to be true if they were Canadian prices.

If you pay for foreign currancy transactions using either a Nationwide or Liverpool Victoria credit card then there are no conversation charges or loadings!!!!!!!
Regards Ivor.

Didn't realise there were banks that charged for that :p :rotfl:
Thanks for the tip btw. are the exchange rates as good though?

They are both mutual societies, and as such do not have share holders to worry about.
I have always found their exchange rates to be slightly better than the big banks.

dave_b9000,
If your using mac mail,go to the mail bar at the top, then choose message.then go to show, which will show various options.Choose plain text alternative.you can now use the £1 off link sent by cd-wow.
I dont think you can link any message from cd-wow unless you use this method !!!!!!!Hope this helps:hiya: :hiya:

Just to let everyone know,:just bought 'FRIDA' (with selma hiyak) from the hk site.
paid $177.95hk,which equals £14.31 on my barclaycard
The price on the .com site is £15.99,so it still saves you money even without the currency pulldown option that has been disabled!!

Mr dragon, I spoke to cd-wow yesterday on another matter, and the woman said" We noticed people in the uk using the HK site, so took out the option of pounds sterling, and this will not be coming back"
Hope this isn`t true :(
COW!! :p
Spoony
it`s still as cheap as ever! since the drop down currency has disappeared and i`m paying in hk dollar the prices have actually gotten cheaper, against the euro anyway.
just over ten euro for a cd.

Months before they removed GBP, they also removed all the expensive items from the HK site, e.g. boxsets, some of the more pricey Criterions, etc ;)

Things like the Sopranos, which are £45 on the other site had gone ages ago too :(
Would have made a nice saving if I had bought all 3 sets, like I want to do.
Oh well, rumbled again , hehe

Oh well still the best prices on DVD film singles anyway. I thought that the HKD prices were a little lower. Checked with Barclaycard and you have to add 2.75% to price before conversion. XE.com adding 2.75% comes to 9.78 so 3p too low!!! SO it seems that XE.com is close enough!!!
