Don't know what you mean by weird  You mean films that are weird or just films that seem weird because people have never heard of them?

Either way, I have quite a few but couldn't list unless I know what you mean. Weird is my favourite genre

Got a well weird one on VHS though - "Freaks". Whose familiar with this one then? Shame it's not out on DVD.

Weirdest film?
Most disturbing film and this I have on VHS is without a doubt Eraserhead...

"Freaks". Amazing film. Made seventy two years ago and was banned in Britain for thirty years. Still probably considered sensitive because of fears about it being thought exploitative of the disabled (It isn't) and the fact that it is still genuinely disturbing. A unique masterpiece.

It depends how you want to define weird, but I suppose "The Wicker Man" is the weirdest in my collection. Another one-off that can't really be compared with anything else.

I think my weirdest must be Titus.

Anthony Hopkins playing the Roman General in a half modern, half classical Rome. Using the original Shakespearean language and the play's original graphical disturbing scenes, the film nearly turned Hopkins insane as his character does.

Great film if you can follow it to the end, but very weird indeed.

Hi,

I guess most of these would be classified as weird, in one respect or another:

"Urotsukidoji: Perfect Collection" (The first two films in the four-film series, totally uncut and uncensored.)

"Baraka" (Although only because few people have heard of it.)

"Cannibal Holocaust"

"Malice@Doll" (Japanese anime.)

"Phil Mulloy: Extreme Animation" (If you've seen it, you'll know why! :) More than 150 minutes of the most way-out animation you'll ever have seen, and the guy's British as well. Includes the superb "The Sex Life Of A Chair" which simply has to be seen to be believed!! Honest-to-God, this is twisted, but also hilarious, in one of those really strange "Is this actually as sick as it sounds, or is it just my imagination?" kind of ways!)

However, I think most people who see my collection, probably think how weird it is for me to have such a contrast: extreme horror like "Cannibal Holocaust" sitting next to "A Bug's Life" and "Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds", with "Fitzcarraldo", "Tremors", "Betty Blue", "The Abyss: Special Edition" and "Gladiator.

Varied is certainly what I would call it, or maybe eclectic, but not THAT weird a collection of films.... Or is it?!

Wierdest film: Irma Vep. Got it as a birthday pressie. Complete pile of crap!

What I'd really like is a collection of Chris Cunningham music videos in 5.1. (Especially the Aphex Twin ones!)

As my collection's still got some vhs tapes kicking around I'd have to include a couple of them aswell -

El Topo - Jodorowsky's LSD fuelled Paella Western (he's Spanish not Italian:p ) Much loved by John Lennon.

Sante Sangre - Another Jodorowsky oddball fest about.... hmmmm, I'll have to get back to you on that. Set in a circus. An elephant has a big public funeral. Strange, to say the least.

The Holy Mountain - Yet another unfathomable Jodorowsky opus. In this one, at one point they re-enact the Spanish invasion of Central America using gekko's and iguana's. The guy's not right in the head.

Bad Boy Bubby - Kid gets brought up in an incestuous household where his mum convinces him the air outside is poisonous in order to keep him locked up for her own sexual entertainment. Once he ventures outside things get very bizarre and he ends up singing in a punk band. Extreme weirdorama. Each different scene is shot by a different cinematographer giving the film a pretty unique visual look.

The Bride Of Frank - one of my favourite films. A low budget indie flick where they actually employed a down-and-out drunk to play Frank, a tramp taken on by a haulage firm as one of their workers. On his birthday they set out to find him a girlfriend with big t*ts. Without doubt the funniest film I've ever seen. I've literally wept from laughing so much watching this. It's finally getting a DVD release later in the year:clap:

Faces of Gore - mondo pseudo-documentary about death featuring lots of footage of road traffic accidents, suicides etc from Japan. Features narration that's been written in the worst possible taste. Not for the squeamish, but anyone that reads Bizarre magazine should be fine with it. A lot of people claim it's all faked, but they obviously don't know what real trauma does to the human body. Very desensitizing after 90 minutes.

Possession - an old early 80's Sam Neill/Isabelle Adjani movie where the leading lady grows herself a new husband. Strangely, she keeps having sex with it when it isn't even properly formed yet. Features some of the oddest things I've seen comitted to celluloid, and I've seen some odd things in my time:god:
Also has some quite nasty, realistic, and bloody domestic violence scenes.

That'll do for now.

Freaks is an excellent film. It did have a R2 release but got deleted very quickly. No sign of an R1 since it was announced a couple of years ago. Shame. The R2 was no better than the Warners "Maverick Directors" vhs tape anyway, in fact, it looked like it was duped from it:rolleyes:

Shame. It's not a film that I could watch all the way through again and again, but it has some moments that are 'nice' to show to visitors  Scene selection would thus be a must on this title :smashin:

My weirdist film will have to be a Belgium film called Man Bites Dog.
If you have not seen it i suggest you have a look at this film......slightly disturbing yet strangely comedic.
It has that slight oomph you get watching Henry, Portrait of a serial killer but that bizarreness feel as if you have just sat down and tried explaining what Donnie Darko is about to your mum & Dad!!!!

Weirdest (and one of the funniest) DVD in my collection is John Water's "Pink Flamingos" R1. Re-defines the term "sick" humour. Not many people can stomach it but some think it's a hoot! Can't possibly describe anything about it here, so the curious among you will have to do a net search.

"Freaks" - absolute gem of a movie - one of the few VHS tapes I've kept. Where's the DVD Warners???

I've been hoping Bad Boy Bubby to be released on DVD for years. It's an absolutely classic film and the only VHS tape I have left. I think the lead is played by a guy called Nicholas Hope, and if you haven't seen this film then you really should just for his performance. Outstanding.

Now weird - there is a subjective word.....

Well "Audition" is just about the only one that I will never watch again, but the Documentary "American Movie" is about the oddest, yet most wonderful thing I own. It is as quotable as Withnail and I.....bloody fantastic

Donnie Darko was probably one of the weirdest films i've ever seen. I rented it from bb, as i had seen it highly recomended on their website. Geesh i sat there, watched it, and then tried to figure out what i had just been watching for the last two hours.

Hmmm...

Just got Dutch release of Caligula(156min) off ebay. I had to laugh at the Dutch "16" rating given to this movie.....cripes, I don't think I could handle a Dutch XXX !!!

I bought this movie after hearing about it's notoriety over the years. This edition has a documentary which was made in 1981 with some very candid behind-the-scenes footage from the late 70s which is pretty much as explicit as the movie itself. Still an interesting 55 min complilation of interviews and production footage.

Was it worth the wait ? yes & no.

Yes, it is graphic in its violent & sexual content, but then so was Pagan Rome. "Gladiator" reawakened my interest in roman history, and I am considering getting the "I, Claudius" DVD boxset very soon.

Yes, it is good to see a film in pretty much the version it was supposed to be seen in(from the producer's point of view anyway). Although the original Cannes 3+hr version would've been real torture(sic) to sit through.

Yes, its interesting to see a film cast starring Peter O'Toole, Sir John Gielgud, Helen Mirren, Malcolm McDowell blissully ignorant of the hardcore scenes that will be inserted, without their knowledge, post production, transforming the film into a 20 million dollar porn flick.

Yes, this particular movie is probably very unique, not necessarily in a good way, but unique nontheless. It is definitely the weirdest DVD in my collection.

No, I don't consider this to stand up to many repeat viewings, unless you are Caligula, himself reincarnated. Also not a demo DVD for showing off your AV system to your visiting gran after dinner :rotfl:

No, this movie didn't really need the extra hardcore material spliced in. Although, I have never seen the toned down R-rated 90 min version, I was quite happy with the performances by the core cast, and I think the movie could've retained some notoriety on the subject matter alone.

If you have never heard of this movie before then you should check out a fan site:

http://www.caligulathemovie.com

The site does contain some adult content, stills from the film itself and a couple of softcore photos from the extras' daytime jobs as Penthouse pets. If you are tempted to buy the DVD I recommend you check out the site first so you know what you are in for, and try and pick up a copy cheap on ebay if you decide its worth a purchase.

Hi,

I think I can beat ALL of you, for the "Weirdest DVD Title" for all time.

I have a disc in my collection, bought at the end of last year from my local HMV store called: "Phil Mulloy - Extreme Animation".

You can see more details, and judge for yourself how weird this title is, at:

http://www.bfi.org.uk/videocat/index.php/page/item_view/code/299

One of the animations is called ""The Sexlife Of A Chair"! It's the most twisted and sick animation ever, and yet it contains absolutely no sex, no violence, no gore, no bad language, and no nudity! Watch it, and then you'll see why this disc is an 18!
