My first projector

I'm planning on getting my first projector. So far I've decided on the Sanyo PLV-Z2000 and a motorised Grandview Cyber screen http://direkt2u.co.uk/product_info.p...products_id=65.

I'd like to ceiling mount the projector and screen and would also like the wires (10m hdmi and power cables) to be hidden as much as possible (without ripping into the walls).

My question is, do you think it'll be fairly easy to install and set this up? I have an electrican coming soon to do some other work and was thinking he could do this. Its just drilling a few holes and routing a few wires I presume...

Or, should I be looking for a professional installer? Since they would know more about how to align everything. How much do you think an installer should cost?

Re: My first projector

I got the Z200 as my first projector too, but wall mounted mine. It is extremely heavy, so you will need a good joist above

This is a page from the manual, which shows how far you can shift the image.

I also found the projector central calculator http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sany...ulator-pro.htm very useful too.

I also found a US thread, where people post their best image settings. I'll check mine and post them later, as they made a big difference to the preset ones.

My sig below, shows my Z2000 wall mounted. When I get a new camera, I will post some pics of it in action. The picture is amazing, but maybe once a week I have to slightly adjust the focus. It doesn't bother me and is probably because of the pounding subwoofer

Re: My first projector

Thanks for the info violinaling. Looks like you have a v nice setup there

I've just done some measuring and I estimate the projector lens will be 18cm from the ceiling. The picture it projects should be approx 97cm tall, so I estimate I need to shift the picture down by 118cm to get it positioned where I want (60 cm from the bottom of the floor).

I've drawn a diagram which probably demonstrates this better (see attached).
Looking at the manual you posted, does it mean that the maximum horizontal shift is 1x the screen height? Since 118cm would be 1.2x the screen height.

Although, over here they say "Extensive 2.0x zoom and 3.0x picture height lens shift."

Re: My first projector

The manual shows that you can only shift x1 above, or below. I think 3.0x picture height lens shift, means the same.

Re: My first projector

In my room, the screen is 1m from the ground (viewable area 1.08m) and I sit 3.7m from it. I find this absolutely fine, and never get tired eyes or feel strained

What size room and screen will you be playing with?

Also, I got mine some time ago from ivojo.co.uk and they were really good. I see they have a free bluray player with it now (and its cheaper). I got a free PS3 with mine, so maybe they would do that still. If you like games and haven't got a bluray player, I'd go for a PS3

Re: My first projector

Yes, I've seen that offer over at ivojo. Its the best I've seen around, although I already have a PS3, and wont need an extra Blu Ray player.

Anyway, the screen I'm using is 77" diagonal (16:9) and my seating position will be about 3m back from the screen.

So by my calculations, the lowest I can put it is 81cm above the floor. Or otherwise I'd need to hang the projector lower from the ceiling. I'd rather not do this since it would have to hang about 50cm down.

Looking at your manual again, I guess by 3x picture height they mean't you can go 1 picture height up or down from the default.
