View Full Version : I need a new phone and i havent got a clue..... help please!
Its not often I am willing to admit to being a newbie in here, but this time im just stuck with it!
I have currently got a 3310 on orange pay as you go, but due to their restructuring of tariffs, it is about to become very expensive! I at the moment do alot of texting and phone calling, but i dont use it with pcs, nor do i need to so im guessing features on a new phone are a bit pointless! Anyhow, I have seen the O2 online contracts with 500 free texts and a load of free mins which seems good to me for 20 or £25. But what phone? They have an 8310 or a 3510i free or alternatively a 7650 (which im noticing there being plent of threads about) for £80. So whch is best for my situation? I dont much see point in the 7650, does it have anything worthwhile for me? i dont know anyone with phones like it so i guess even mms is going to be unused. Given that is it as well to go for the plain 8310? or is the 3510 an equally good phone and has the color display thrown in for measure?! Help!
thanks

Remember that Orange has OVP allowing contract tariff matching and have recently started offers at: http://shop.orange.co.uk/NASApp/esales/esales
What's important to you in a phone? Battery life? Colour Screen? Text Memory? Phonebook Size? Reliability? Price? If you post your preferences I may be able to help out more ;)
Hi RCT, thanks for the reply!
To be honest alot of my friends are no longer on orange....... so to be with them is no bonus....... though i can always explore what they have on offer thanks.
ok..... details! Battery life...... well at the moment i charge every 2 or 3 days....... more battery is nice though by no means essential. Colour screen....... well ive never seen the color screens and i have to wonder how much they would be worth to me if im only looking at text messages...... or is there something im missing that color is handy for!? Text memory, well i had a 7110 ages ago and the memory was good, i have got used to having only 10 with the 3310 but i guess it would be nice if i had a bit more scope than that! Phonebook....... dont need that many........ i think i have 70 odd at the moment so id think 100 would be piles. Reliability..... well this is a big one, i dont want to be messing about, i dont want to mess about with changing softwares here there and everywhere, i want something which is going to work and isn't going to break when it gets the slightest bump! finally, price! Well that depends on what im getting and what its worth! If the phone has a realy useful feature i may well pay for it, but im not willing to pay a fortune just for the sake of having the smallest/coolest/latest/flashiest (delete as needed!) phone! Hence why im considering the free phones!
thanks again!

Hi there
I got the 8310 on a similar deal from 02 (200 free mins and 500 texts for £30.00 per month) and I am made up with the phone.
It is much smaller than my old 3210 and as I don't need MMS or colour screen it suits me. The radio feature is very good though, even better sounding than my personal radio I used to use.
So far (3 months) it has been very reliable and I have not had one problem with it at all.
Cheers
Gray
Take a look at the Nokia 6310i: amazing battery life, memory tri-band, reasonably stable, excellent signal holding. or Siemens SL42 - rock solid stability, expandable memory (MMC) MP3 player, dictaphone, excellent call quality, customisable UI.
After a bitter experience with Nokia- I can't wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone, however I'm assured the 6310i has had most problems ironed out now. The Sony Ericsson's I've used have been generally good (with the exception of the T68(i)). I find Motorola still hasn't got a decent UI. I've had 2 Siemens phones now and I can't fault them :)
Good luck with your search and feel free to ask for further info ;)
Why don't you unlock your 3310 and move to a better provider ?
The 6310 costs........ i think im going to get a free phone..... cant find about the 3510i's ability to store messages..... so thats what im basing it on!
Lynx,
Getting a contract is the cheapest route for me, so im figuring i might as well get a free phone thrown in! Why turn don free stuff!!??

Just got the Nokia 5100 Free on the O2 50 plan from The link.
They price matched the internet offer I had found.
Hope this might be of help!
