Which one Sony KDL40W4000 or Samsung LE40A656

Hi,
I'm torn between the two above. Which one should I go for and why?

Neither, get the th42pz85, i saw it next to both tvs, and the plasma was clealy better. Most notable was the colours were life like, not over saturated.

Between the two you cant go wrong with either,sony has better colours,reliability and better for gaming while samsung offers little better motion because of 100Hz and cheaper £100

I was looking at the same 2 sets and had decided on the Samsung...picture (to my eyes) looked marginally better viewed side by side on same (HD) source. Admittedly this was in Comet so set up may not have been great! The cheaper price on the Samsung is also a factor.

Only thing that was giving me pause was Sony's reliability over Samsung. I have a 2yr old 32v2000 and it's been flawless so far...contrast this with all the problems posted about Samsung sets on here.

Now that the 40v4000 has come down to the same price level as the 40a656 (and should offer a similar performance to the w4000) I'm still stuck on choice!

So 40a656 or 40v4000? Discuss...

yeah the V4000 offers similar performance to W4000.However if you want to buy now Id buy the 40W4000 as the price of the 40V4000 will drop maybe below £700 soon.Currently the 40W4000 is at £865

I am in a similar situation, its a tough call between:

Samsung 46A656

Toshiba 46ZF355D

Sony 46W4000

They all get good reviews, they all have some user complaints but you'll always get some faults in some sets with mass produced consumer electronics.

Price/value wise I think the Samsung wins.

LCD matt screen the Sony wins the Samsung in particular has a very reflective screen not unlike a plasma.

Sound quality the Tosh wins

Design is a of course a matter of taste though the Tosh does have a slim frame, and the Samsung I believe is the thinest of all three. Samsung doesn't have a flat bottom edge making a center speaker a bit more challenging.

I think to sum up and get off the fence to make a descision if you are happy with the Samsung get the Samsung and invest the money saved in speakers, amp etc...

I am just about to buy my first LCD TV upgrading from an old toshiba CRT. Seems that with all of them unless you have sky HD or similar there is a big change in picture quality. We want something that will be as good as possible on standard sky until we get sky HD. All the stores have pretty awful pictures and put this down to shared aerials. Is it a possibility that it will be better with a single Sky connection? Also are these the 2 best options at 40" bearing in mind the picture quality?

Well, well it took me about a month of researching which one is better 40A656 or 40W4000.

luckily i had a chance to play with samsung for one week b4 returning it, and i hated it.
1.initially my and my mums eyes were hurting watching this tv.

2.sd picture on sammy were not better then my old CRT from sat box or from freeview.

3. hd picture from ps3 and blueray were good however

4. design and noise levels are good
5. remote control usability is ok with some nice features(illuminations of the buttons)

Sony 40w4000:

1.SD picture is good
2.HD picture blueray and ps3 games very good.
3.Remote control, a bit confusing but getting used to it.
4. feuatures ok, XMB(menues) a bit slower then expected
5.Clicking noises when TV warms up and cools down, not good

apart from 5 sony is amazing tv and definetely worth paying 100 quid extra.

no need for 100hz nonsense, all hyped up, just to confuse people.

i tried all the optimal setting for bouth tvs from hdtvtest.co.uk and again sony is better quality tv and pleasent to watch.

70% happy with sammy
90% happy with sony

its a good point how much different is the V4000 then the W4000? what will i miss?? (Picture quality??, sound?)
i mean for a SD purpose is there much difference as i know its more expensive but i am trying to watch the pennies and not spend money i do not have!
