New all in one to pair with new Panny?

After a bit of help if possible please!
Just purchased a new Panny PX80 plasma & i have about £200 budget left to spend on a new cinema system,preferably i would like 2.1 surround system in black if possible.
I know a 5.1 set up is more realistic but the other half doesn't want rear speaker wires trailing along our brand new skirting boards!!!

I'd like a Panny system to match the tv if possible but its not the end of the world if its another brand!

As i've said its being connected to a PX80 plasma,but i also have a Sky+ box which i'd like to link in if possible? Also have an ipod so that would be a added bonus if i could connect that as well!!

What do you recommend is my best option,my main uses will be 60% Sky viewing,30% Dvd viewing & 10% music listening.

I await your landslide of suggestions!! LOL!!

Cheers,Ian

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

With a £200 budget you need look no further than the following link:-

http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/produ...oduct_id=15886

I have a £300 budget and I am seriously considering either this model or a £120 more expensive Sony system.

Yamaha is a very highly respected brand and the range of options available with the quoted model is just amazing for the price.

Let us know what you choose.

** edit ** although now I read your post properly I see you don't want the wires so that system might not be the answer unless you use it as a 3.1 instead of 5.1. For the price that's still an excellent choice.

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

Yeah you could connect up to your dvd player and just use the system as an awesome surround system to compliment it. In the future you could always try to conceal the wires maybe in your skirting boards or under the carpet to get the maximum use out of it. I guess as you have no HDMI on your dvd player you would connect via component to the screen and then make an audio connection to the amp.

I had a demo of the Yamaha today and I was blown away by the sound, amazing its such a good price.

What is the best way to connect the DVD player to the Yamaha? You said via audio cable,what sort would i need to buy?

Cheers DogzillaNL!

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

You would connect via digital coax cable into the amp, you would need one of these:-

Maplins or any other electrical store will stock them

The one I just posted has an iPod port for easy music listening too, it matches nicely with the PZ80 which I think i'm getting but will look nice with the PX too

I got a SC-PT460 Panny system which works great with my Panny plasma. It has small wife friendly speakers and the iPod dock which works a treat. It also worked well with the Viera link till I added a BD30 to the equation. I play this through the optical in so you could do the same for your SKY +. Got this as an AV Receiver such as the Onkyo or SONY would give the missus kittens when she saw their size. Also only need a couple of inputs.

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

Looks good also but I would go for the Yamaha every time. The Panasonic has only 1 HDMI connection, I think the Yamaha is more future proof in that respect.

Yamaha

Connections

* 2 (In) + 1 (Out) x HDMI Connections
* 3 (In) + 1 (Out) x Component Video Connections
* 2 x Optical Terminal Connections
* 1 x Co-axial Digital Connection
* 2 x Audio Analog Phono Connections
* 1 x Headphone Socket
* 1 x Subwoofer Pre-Out Connection
* 4 x Front/Side AV Connections

Panasonic

Connections
1 x HDMI Connection/s
1 x Component Video Connection/s
1 x Optical Terminal Connection/s
5.1 x External Speaker Connection/s
1 x Standard Scart Connection/s
1 x USB 2.0 Connection/s
1 x Front/Side AV Connection/s
iPod Connection

If you cross link the 2, I feel the Yamaha will last a lot longer as you will inevitably chop and change your equipment in the future.

Hope this helps.

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

The Yamaha certainly does trounce the panny in terms of connections, but it doesn't have an upscaling DVD player which I think the OP wanted, as do I. Without it you can in a way remove one of the effective optical inputs as one will have to go to a seperate DVD player.

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

Just to confirm a couple of things i'm unsure of if you can answer them for me:-

The yahama -
How would i connect the dvd player and sky+ box to it simultaneously?

The panny all in one -
How would i connect that to the sky+ box? Via optical?

Sorry for all the questions guys!!

Re: New all in one to pair with new Panny?

Yeh, you'd connect sky+ via optical and with the yamaha you could connect both via HDMI or optical, you can get an optical splitter which allows you to connect 2 or 3 optical cables to one input
