45nm means less volts used and cooler and bigger cach. the x48 p45 and above take all the cpus even the 65nm the x38 takes all the 65nm and all the 45nm at the moment

Re: Processor size differences

yeah most boards are fine. P35, x38 boards etc etc

the 45nm and 65nm is nothing to do with the actual size in dimensions of the cpu it's to do with the manufacturing process of the cpu's

Actually, it is. 45nm chips are smaller than 65nm chips. 65nm chips are 2 ×143 mm˛ while the 45nm chips are 2 × 107 mm˛

However, the CPU itself (or CPUs themselves in this case) is the small silver rectangle, it's built into a ceramic plate (the green bit) which is the same size and has the same connections for intel's Q6XXX range and Intel's Q9XXX range and which fit into the same sockets.

(I believe intel is currently covering the processors with a large silver headspreader, there's a picture of a kentsfield (Q6600) without one here: http://www.shivaranjan.com/2006/09/1...d-benchmarked/)
