New Traffic Managment In Action

Ok, I haven't used my 20mb connection for much this week except email and browsing.
Today I decide to download some stuff I had queued up.

Start of download:

13:34 hours 2.1mbps

14: 02 hours 0.5mbps

I stopped then and have during the day on and off reconnected..its now 23:45 and I am still getting 0.5mbps.

So much for '5 hours rest period' once you hit 4gb; up till now its been TEN hours.
So now not only their premiere service isn't 'unlimited' but also not '20mb'.

re: http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...t/traffic.html

LIES & YET MORE LIES

I have been testing VM's 'traffic management policy' in the last week and further results as follows:

'Daytime management (7 days a week)
When does it apply? 1000-1500
Threshold 6000MB'

LIES: I downloaded exactly 1.9gb between 10:00 hours and 1500: SPEED: 596k throughout download. There were no throttling penalties prior to that.

Re: New Traffic Managment In Action

I have the 4meg service till contract ends in a while (downgraded from 20 as I don't D/L much) I find that after about 15 mins of radio streaming 128kbps bitrate and some forum surfing plus my son on you tube in another room that when I type a url into my machine it just hangs and then gives me page error
system has been multiply scanned for malware etc using a variety of different virus spyware finders and shows up clean SO I feel that purgin are basically fornicating us all no matter how little or much we use our connections
please let me wake up tommorrow to find it was all a dream and I only imagined the past year and a half and that good ol' telewest still exists

Re: New Traffic Managment In Action

Its like the Billing Customer Service Rep at Virgin told me during the cancellation of my broadband and moving to O2..

VM:
"We have to use throttling and so that we can be fair to all our other users - all ISP's do it."

ME: "Which is why on O2 I have actually downloaded 6GB of [work data] in just over 1 day and not noticed a single restriction on my service? - which may I add is actually a rare download, I at most download maybe 1-2GB per week off xbox live demos and psn network."

VM: .......[hesitation]....[erm]....[right]....[moving onto cancellation stuff]

Read the other threads on here about moving ISP's - start enjoying the good old internet the way it used to be before these clowns showed up.

Re: New Traffic Managment In Action

I cant believe all this.
For the past month or so ive noticed my 20mb/s going down during the days at weekends, always thought it was network maintenance.
today i decide to call them and ended up shouting at some guy for 10mins.
He was like a bloody robot, just giving me the same crap as has been posted about.
How can it be unlimited when they are limiting the speed? He just kept saying the same things over and over.
He even said we arent paying for 20mb/s but for 10mb/s and we get the other 10mb for free.
I didnt know about the daytime capping and find this really frustrating (as you can tell)
I've been with TW for years but now im off.
Ive always stuck up for VM and recommend them to friends but now i dont have a good word to say about them.

Re: New Traffic Managment In Action

paying for 10mb and getting 10mb "free" haha thats a new one on me, and again its lies lies lies, they are advertising there service as 20mb not 10mb with 10mb free but not always available. my contract has now ended and im free of VM now. and i always used to "stick up" for them too saying there not as bad as everyone made out.... and they didnt used to be but they just continue to go down hill. and as for the traffic management policy i thought it was 3gb limit for the 20mb service not 4gb, and i thought the "peak" times are 09:00-21:00. and as for the "5 hour cool down period" i have yet to see anyone thats been put back to full speed after 5 hours its always been about 12-24 hours before the service has been "un-throttled)

In VM's defence (i cant believe im writing this) i do see my speed go back up during the day. Ive not timed it but it nowhere near 12 hours. So i guess about 5 is right.
Also i have no issues with the service as in i always get top speed when im not capped.
Im calmer now, still looking around but as we cant get a dish put up my options are limited.
Its only the traffic managmet i have a problem with, nothing else but it looks like its going to get worse.

You have to remember that the person in the call center can only tell you what they're told to, ranting and raving at the call center staff normally gets you no where.

I still see that your having a go at VM even though as you say your no longer with them, can I ask that your careful how you post as it's a fine line between fact and what classed as unsubstantiated aligations.

Re: New Traffic Managment In Action

Curly.
Yeah, i agree but two points.
1. It made me feel better. I didnt mean to loose it (and i wasnt rude and didnt swear) but it gets very frustrating talking to a robot....
2. I was talknig to a robot. If he had tried to be a bit more human it wouldnt have been so bad but like you say, he was just telling me what he had been told to say.
To me that not customer service.
