Rel Q50
Hi
I'm trying to get my hands on a Rel Q50 sub, after much recommendation. The only problem is that this has been discontinued, and I can't seem to find one for love nor money, new or second hand - anyone have any ideas where I could look ?
Thanks in advance

Try Loot
I got the one of the last Q50s that REL made, and its a top subwoofer.
Expect to pay around £200-£250 second hand.

You could look for a Rel Q100E instead, basically the same but with 100W amp and a grille (Q50 has no grille)

Q 150e
There is a Q 150e sub up for grabs - how is this in comparison to the Q50 ?

The Q50 and Q100 are much better than the Q150.

It rates poorly in comparison so don't buy in haste and repent at leisure. Alternatives to waiting are a Velodyne CHT-10 in the forum Power Buy section at £325 or a 300watt sub from the company that actually made the Q100 on behalf of REL at £280 available from here and click on bargain corner

Have just seen an advert for a very reasonably priced Rel Storm II.
How does this compare, apart from looking like the monolith out of 2001...

Alot better than the Q series (I have a Storm) goes louder & lower, the Q struggles and runs out of excursion quite easily (with certain frequencies)

My room is approximately 12' x 14', would the Storm be too large for this area, both physically and sonically, would the Q50 better suit a diminutive room ? Or doesn't size matter after all

My room is 3.5M x 2.5M. I think my Storm isn't enough- for AV like the sub loud & low.
You can never go "too big" cos you'll just have the sub lower- a better sub will sound better anyway at the same volume (plus louder & lower of course)
My mate has the Rel Q100E, compared the Storm v Q100E (similar to the Q50). One problem with the Q100E is on Startship Troopers Whiskey outpost scene the 100E parps even at lowish volume, I don't know why. The sub is not faulty. Also has problems with digital-sourced audio (ie Toy Story II intro, Titan AE) Most other DVD's are fine.

Just out of curiosity, what are the dimensions of the Storm / Q50 ?
I guess sonically there is no contest, unfortunately my other half has a significant input into the aesthetics of our house. Large black objects that look like they come from the bridge of the Enterprise are frowned upon - hence the tradeoff !
