Hi martian1.
Same on all points apart from the 1080p/24 with the EP10.
All the best.

Re: Which is best hddvd player ?
I can get either for £100 [unless now sold] thing is i already have the A1 and 2 hddvd drives just tempted by the 1080p and region free.
I cannot decide if i should just leave it and put cash towards a blu-ray player or spend cash on more cheap hddvd's
If i did get a blu-ray player then the A1 would have to go as my rack cannot hold 2 large players..the EP-10 is very slim compared to the A1 so could squeeze in both. I do have blu-ray via pc.

I am impressed by EP-10 and have it as my main player as well as the back-up, a brand new one. I am now using it as the upscaler for region 1 SD DVDs (for R2, I use the PS3) and am very satisfied with its performance with HD DVDs.

I've just brought an EP10 for £100, looking forward to the HD sound over my EP30 plus the multi-region for my SD's. I was going to spend £60 on a Sony MR upscaler anyway so this is a much better option.

So is the EP10 basically a HDE1 with 1080p an 24hz. I may try to get a player soon and although I don't have HD display (480p and HDCP DVI), I want it to be future proof as possible for when I upgrade in the future.

Re: Which is best hddvd player ?
You will find the new players may add features above the A1s like 1080p, 24p / bitstream output etc. You will not find them noticably faster however. In fact my A1, XA1 boot faster than the XE1. All are 'relatively' slow in comparison with dvd but there isn't a night and day difference between them all. You may also find that some player output a different type of bitstream signal (DD as opposed to DTS).
