I'm going with scene which sums up urban for me: Street signs, a security camera on a wall, uneven paving, a young woman with pram, a bus, an old lady, parked cars, shop signs, terraced flats, a fat woman lighting a fag, weeds growing out of gutters. All in one side street.

Very good photo, and you have a lot happening and have captured everything well. Sums up a typical urban street.

I didn't take that many to be honest. It was more a case of waiting until the frame was filled properly...that took quite a while.
I knew I wanted one person walking towards the camera and I was also looking for a pram and there had to be a bus. The longest wait was for the "fat woman" - I needed someone to stop there so as to add interest to that area of the picture, obviously making sure that all the other elements were in place at the same time. The woman at the far end looking in the shop window is a bonus I hadn't noticed until I got home, as is the [just visible] seagull on the roof.
I am sure that its missing something, cant quite put my finger on it though:laugh:

Well, you what they say "it's not over until the fat...." :)
Nice picture and well on theme.
Its a nice photo and bang on theme:grin:
but
I just think it is a bit too busy and lacks any one element to grab you
Just my opinion

This has a kind of Martin Parr feel to it (and that's a compliment). This is the kind of scene you could find in any urban environment in the UK. It's just a shame that as senu says it's a bit busy and lacking a focal point.

Regarding the comments of it being "busy"...I agree.
However  , it is exactly what I wanted to capture.
I specifically didn't want one focal point. I didn't want your eye drawn immediately to one person or object. My capture was to be an urban street. If you turn into such a street and are confronted by all this, your eye does flit all around. You take it in bit by bit, seeing this, then that, and oh look over there too.
It's not going to work for everyone, but I'm very happy with it .

Being fairly new to this photography lark, I had to look Martin Parr up  (I now remember him as the judge on the Channel 4 photography show earlier this year), and agree, this definitely has that feel to it - good stuff.
A slice of everyday life..

I had to wiki Martin Parr too. His pictures do have an "Artie Fufkin" look to them, don't they .

It has all the elements... I wonder what would happen to the dynamics if you dropped the height (or raised it, but that's more difficult) to closer to the ground level...
Then again, if you were aiming at a 'snapshot in time' of the everyman, then you got what you were after(!)
