New turntable based system

Hi,

First off i am posting for a friend not myself.
They want to buy a new system for the bedroom based around a turntable. It seems they are very interested in the Arcam Solo or mini solo, what turntable would you recommend to pair with this? And also, bearing in mind it is a bedroom and i am not sure of the size, suitable speakers. I don't think the Arcam has a phono input so which is the best phono pre-amp to get or are there any other alternatives to the Arcam?

Hi...you really need to get an idea of price from your friend.

There are decent TT's available from not much over £200 incl cartridge, and phonostages from around £50 up,but some idea of what he wants to spend, and if he is willing to accept used gear to stretch the budget further, would be very useful.

As Alex says dude you can easily have a TT system from £200. My personal favourites for VFM are Project TTs but you can buy second hand TTs like the Rega P2/P3 which are price comparible, add a nice little phono stage like the Cambridge Audio CA640p and you are off, so good in fact I am using one to great effect in my setup. FWIW Just seen another site where a chap is using a Project RPM5 with 33/45 speed change, £400 with a decent cart. Add the 640P and at £460 you have one of the nicest looking TT setups your likely to find for a while.

Re: New turntable based system

Unfortunately they are being a bit vague on price but i imagine we should be looking at equipment that would compliment the Arcam Solo.
Would the Rega 3-24 wit Denon DL110 be overkill for this type of system, if its quality would not be realised then maybe a cheaper prject TT?

Re: New turntable based system

CJ as usual has given some excellent advice.....the Project,or a Rega would give good performance, and allied to a decent entry level phonostage such as the Cambridge, you have the beginnings of a good system that can be added to with time.
