Re: motherboard

go with the cheapest one personal - the premiums versions have a lot of features that 99% of the time don;t get used.

Also have a look at the newer P45 chipset motherboards from Asus.

You asked for any opinion, well here goes, I wouldn't have any of those as I have had nothing but problems with Asus Boards, in the past they were really good but I don't think the quality is there nowadays I have moved to the Gigabyte alliance and havn't regretted it at all, they are well built and just work as they should.

Of course this is only my opinion based on 15yrs of PC building, many others have a different point of view and are very happy with Asus, In the end its all down to your own preference.

Good luck with your build......

Re: motherboard

P45 is well overkill for those components in my opinion. could probably spend a third the cost of a P45 and be fine.

Re: motherboard

for your components the p35 chipset would be fine (cheaper than p45) but if you want to upgrade it might be worth getting a better motherboard that will allow future upgrades. the x38 chipset is good and so is the nvidia 680/690 (there all older so will be cheaper) the new chipsets like the p45/x48/780/790 are all newer and hence will cost more. as for asus as a make i have not had any problems with them. i have had one or 2 DOA boards from gigabyte but the other boards from gigabyte have been flawless (still running a gigabyte GA-7n400 Pro 2 its about 3 or 4 years old and its been running flawlessly with various bits of hardware as ive upgraded over time and its been good with overclocking too which people tend to avoid gigabyte due to lack of overclocking) and it its down to personal preference. i wouldnt say there was any make in particular to avoid as ive had some problems with a fair few manufactures (gigabyte, msi, foxconn, asus) one company i havent had any problems with was DFI but then i only had one board from them. msi is the company ive had most problems with but again its probably down to my back luck as loads of people have been happy with them. at the end of the day just go for the cheapest board that gives you the most features.
