Sansui Power Amp - Want to make a volume knob :)

Hi!

I have a Sansui Power Amp, that is technically a car amp, but it sounds nice. The problem is, I have no proper control on the volume, which when I put it into my system powering a sub will cause a problem

I just wanted some advice:
If i were to use a pot inline of the signal (the signal coming through the rca), what impedance should I use??
Sorry for being a complete pillock, but I am clueless about knobs and pots

I have an old broken guitar amp thing in the garage which im gonna chuck, and it has three pots on it, which 50k, 100k, and 250k written on them. Would any of these be suitable for this??

Any response greatly appreciated,

Paul

What you are suggesting is all a bit Heath Robinson! And can't really be recommended.

But to be more helpful... This is on the input, right? From the pots you have -choose the 50k

This is actually too high (probably 10k log is best) but it will give you some control.

Either have a look around on auction sites for the little QED Passive Preamps or advertise for one on here. They pop up occasionally. Go for around a tenner. Just a pot in a box.

Mike.

Thanks for the quick response.
Yeh, it is very Heath Robinson but I do many things like that
QED sounds good, and there's one on ebay on £16, and another on £6.50, so I may bid, but for now, as a quick fix I will try the 50k pot.
Failing that, I will get a 10k one from somewhere online.
Thanks again,
Paul

Follow up:
I have put the 50k pot into a small plastic box, and put rca's on it (it's only mono) and it seems to do that job.
I am keeping an eye out for one of those QED boxes; there are a couple on ebay.

Thanks again for all your help everyone,
Paul
