For the last few day my PC has been running so slow at times I give up waiting.
To load a web page, check favourites takes ages. Took about 45 seconds to load the homepage here. Running XP with Athlon CPU. Recently updated to AVG8.0 but I sure problem was there before. Only 2 users myself and my wife.
Looking in the task master with only her logged on, and nothing opened, the CPU usage is about 5% max. If I am logged on alone, and nothing opened or active, the CPU usage goes consistantly between 4% and 21% this is due to services.exe. Why the difference? and does it mean anything?

Thanks

Bit more info.

My user account has approx 40 processes when looking in task master but my wifes account has only 13.

Anyway I decided to create a new account and this has 39 proccesses but is much much faster.

Using the new account to get the AVForums banner consistantly takes no more than 2 seconds whereas using my account takes about 25 seconds each time.

How do I ascertain what is wrong in my account?

Cheers

Tthe 2 user processes vary as follows

Slow system has Ymsgr_tray.exe
PCSuite.exe
rundll32.exe

The fast system does not have these 3 processes but has the following which the slow system does not

raid_tool.exe
EM_EXEC.exe
NcIRSSrv.exe

As clear as mud to me except for the raid item which appears not be on the slow system:confused:

it'll be one or more of three from the slow system.
the rundll could be anything what was it actually running.

if you stick process explorer on (free tool and good) you can nail the sucker if you want to.
if you identify what s/w it is behind those three (or two or one if you identify it/them/ the hogs with process explorer) you can avoid re-installing it at a future date.
