Originally posted this in the mce forum with not much luck-so here goes again.wmp 11 works fine with cd/dvd and plays downloaded video clips perfectly. However on sites which stream video(i.e not downloadable) it doesn`t work. Either the player appears and tells me its`ready` but when i press play nothing happens,or it tells me it can`t play the file.Clicking on `web help` doesn`t do anything.I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the player but it made no difference. Can anyone tell me in easy to understand terms(cos i`m a bit thick when it comes to computers)how i can get media player to work properly.I have tried doing a system restore but for some reason it can`t do a restore,to any date(and if anyone can tell me why that should be the case I would be most grateful).

Hey there

Are you using internet Explorer 7 ?? if so it sounds like it could be that you windows media player add ons are not enabled to check this out go to tools> options> manage add ons> Enable or disable Add ons. There should be a drop down menu at the top click on it and select 'Add ons that have been used by internet explorer' scroll down and find the windows media player add ons ( if they are installed) and at the bottom of the windows there is a settings heading which will tell you if they are enabled or disabled

Try checking that out :)

PS: You probably can't choose a restore date either because system recovery is disabled or your disk usage is set to very low so it can't create a new restore point to check this out go to system restore and in the left hand column click on system restore settings ( under the paragraph of writing). High light the drive you want to set the settings for im presuming it will be C and then click on the settings button next to where the drives are listed this should display a window with the disk usage slider you can move the slider to increase or decrease the amount of space that system restore uses

Hope this Helps

Thanx for your reply leeboy-all ad-ons are enabled(to tell the truth I had no idea what they were till I read your message so thanx for that, you learn something new everyday )-but it`s still not working i`m afraid:mad:.As for system restore problem-again I had no idea about the settings you mentioned but having checked, the maximum space allowed for a restore is already set.

As I mentioned on my original post on the MCE forum I have been tempted to simply roll back my computer to it`s original state(I`ve had to do this twice this year due to various problems cos I had no idea what else to do-isn`t it annoying when your computer crashes spectacularly 5 days after the warranty runs out!!!)and everythings worked perfectly (until the next crash),it`s just a waste of a couple of days re-installing everything .I hate to think how much of my life i`ve wasted trying to sort out computer issues with my limited knowledge. Is it really worth the hassle just for a few poor quality videos???.............YES.

Hi again

Yeah lol well we all want full usage of our computer's before rolling back the computer I suppose you could possibly try uninstalling and re- installing internet Explorer 7 but before re-installing try browsing the videos on the old internet explorer 6 and see what happens, at the moment that's all i can think of but I will get back to you if i do hear anything new
