F10 Has Been Pushed On Start Up

I need some help, i am not very computer minded,
My granddaughter has pushed the f10 button when switching on the computer and know i have lost all my photos and music media player and all music.
Can i get these back myself or should i take the computer to a good repair centre.

Sorry, what does F10 exactly do on startup? It varies alot from PC to PC. I assume it was from a company like Dell who often have a restore partition which is activated by pressing one of the F keys?

If F10 has activated the restore program, then your original data has been overwritten. It's not too late to recover the data and there are a number of products on the market that will be able to help (Active Disk Recovery for example). The caveat is that you do need to know what you're doing or you could make things worse. The likes of PCWorld may be able to assist but they will charge you £99+ It all depends on how much you value the data.

What I find rather interesting is that with most recovery partitions the program usually requires one or more confirmations to continue the recovery and in some cases even require you to type something in like "restore data". Your granddaughter must have pressed more keys than just F10!

Agreed, usually you have to go through 3-5 prompts in big RED WRITING to even begin the process.

one quick bit of advice is that the more you use your computer the more data you will lose as it will be overwritten more with use and less likely to be recovered.
