Firewall is a good idea - if you have a router then the chances are that it has a hardware firewall built in and this is normally good enough. If not then a software firewall, which has the advantage of blocking unwanted incoming and outgoing trafic (hardware on router will be incoming only).
ZoneAlarm is one free firewall that can be downloaded from Here (http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Firewall-Windows-2000-XP-/3000-10435_4-10039884.html).

It's good to have more than one anti-spyware.
I have Ad-Aware 2008 Free as well as Spybot (and my Vista computer came with Windows Defender, but XP users can get it too) :)

Hardware firewall (built in with a router)
Software firewall (ie Sygate)
SpywareBlaster
Windows Defender
Ad-Aware
Spybot
HiJackThis
CWShredder

You already have a good AV.

Don't use ZoneAlarm for a firewall. It used to be good, then it got bought out by some company and ever since then it's been bloated and nasty.

Uninstall symantec for a start :P
Download www.free-av.com (http://www.free-av.com) Avira free personal
Google for commodo firewall pro free lightweight and very effective
and download the googlepack and install spyware doctor.
