problems setting LFE below 80hz crossover

Hi, I am having problems setting the LFE for subwoofer in multichannel on my 4308. The lowest choice I get is 80hz, it makes no difference what settings I select.
I have tried both large and small, LFE only and LFE+Fronts.
In stereo it works fine I can choose 60hz and 40hz no problem. It will not go below 80hz in multichannel.
Anyone have any suggestions as to why? I am sure it worked fine before.

Re: problems setting LFE below 80hz crossover

I haven't done it for a while but on my 3806 you set the cross over for each set of speakers. Its in the main audio se up menu under crossover frequency.. (Ithink)

Re: problems setting LFE below 80hz crossover

You can't set the specific LFE channel crossover to anything less than 80hz. Bear in mind there's a setting for the .1 LFE channel as well as the main speaker channels (FL, C, FR etc) so don't get the two confused.

The LFE setting in the Advanced Crossover menu only applies to multichannel content with a .1 LFE channel.

Stereo doesn't have LFE content which is why there's no option to adjust it, so the crossover setting in the 2ch Direct/Stereo will only apply to the FL and FR speakers.

Re: problems setting LFE below 80hz crossover

You need to set the speakers to small before you will see a crossover frequency option. If you click advanced you can set this by channel (assuming you really enjoy multiple sub-main phase errors at multiple frequencies) or go for e.g. 60Hz or 80Hz on all speaker channels.

Assuming you have big speaker and a sub still do not set the X over to 40Hz (as Audessey would often like) as the noise the speaker makes at it's lower limit is not pure . . add 20 or 40Hz to the lower frequency of the smallest speaker to set a X over point that ensures each Speaker bows-out well before it distorts.

The LFE frequency setting on the advance screen is NOT the X over and is very poorly documented . . it is rumoured it applies to either the .1 channel (which is a bit daft as this is a separate effects channel cut off sharply before 120Hz in the studio or to the external SW input connection's content which is more plausble but untested by me and missnamed too if true . . or to the LFE+Main mode . . . as far as i can tell it has no effect on the speaker X over frequency. Setting to 120Hz is probably safe
