If your partitions are C: and E: this means your CD/DVD-ROM drive has taken drive D:. This is no problem, you can change the drive assignments, but this doesn't explain why dual boot isn't working, as XP won't care what drive letters you're using, as long as you've partitioned 2 drives, which you have.

At present you obviously have things setup for single boot. The thing to do now is boot from the XP installation disk, then when it asks where you want XP installed, make sure you pick the 2nd partition (drive E:). It should then allow you to install a fresh copy of Windows and automatically update boot.ini to give you a dual boot option.

The key is you must install the 2nd copy of XP on a different partition, if XP displays a warning asking if you want to repair Windows, this means you're installing to the same partition, which won't work.
