Installed a Blaupunkt Woodstock a few weeks ago but still used the old speakers which were in the car as standard. Despite fiddling with the graphic equaliser and audio settings the bass is not really what I would like. However I don't know whether to upgrade the speakers to 2-way or 3-way with better woofers or go for a sub-woofer with the existing speakers. I mainly listen to blues and rock, anything from Clapton/Pick Floyd to Motorhead and Metallica but techno and rap will never be allowed near the thing.
Any advice gratefully received re set up gratefully received.
There is no substitute for a sub. Grab the bull by the horns and install an amp, sub & components. If you don't you will forever regret it

Ok thanks. What could I put in for a meagre budget, say £500?
Sub - JL Audio 12W0-4 @ £120ish
Amp - Maystar QXT455 @ £150 (1 pair running front spkrs, other pair bridged for sub ).
Comps - ???

IMHO stock speakers in cars are total rubbish.
For 500 quid, you can quite easily get a decent pair of front components, a sub plus box and an amp to drive it all.
Just adding the sub will give you bass, but I guarantee it will just make you aware of how little bass the stock speakers are capable of.
However, with blues, there really isn't that much 'kicking bass' - so you'll definitely appreciate the change of fronts as well (possibly more).
Don't forget as well as buying the sub, you need a box for it - better to buy a cheaper sub and get a box properly made of the right size than to buy a mega expensive sub and chuck it in the first box you find (unless you're very lucky, the former will always sound better than the latter).
If you're interested I'm flogging my old sub with box, amp and component speakers in the for sale section. Total cost new was over a grand: asking price £450...
What car is it?

I try not to go public on the make of car....oh alright it's a Proton but keep it quiet. I assume the sub in a box has to go in the boot but what about the amp?

the amp usually goes in the boot aswell(usually on the seat-back) , though some people may prefer to stick it under one of the front seats in order to conserve boot space....
however point to remember is that amps produce heat and if you stick it under a seat its not the best place for ventilation ;)
