Which ipod?
I am going to buy a new ipod. Can't decide what to get, the 8GB Nano (Black) or the 80GB Classic (Black)?
What are the differences appart from the memory?

Re: Which ipod?
The nano is flash based, which is more durable and better for exercise etc.
The Classic is hard drive based, which means it is more susceptible to damage from drops etc.
The Classic also has a bigger screen (2.5" vs 2") and has a longer battery life (30hrs vs 24hrs).

Re: Which ipod?
Well it depends on your requirements really.
If you want something to hold your whole music collection, photos, videos etc, then the Classic is better.
If you are going to do exercising, want a small player and not bothered about holding all of your music all of the time, then the nano is better.
Personally, I own a 160GB Classic and I'm very happy with it. It holds all of my music, photos, videos and a backup of my Uni work with space to spare, and battery life is great (I get about 37hrs, the 160GB version has a larger battery than the 80GB). Video functionality is good for music videos, or TV programs (although I haven't tried watching a whole movie on it yet).
Many of my friends own 3rd gen nanos and they are very nice players, and pretty small. The screen is sharp (320x240 pixels, same as the Classic) but being smaller (2") it's not the best for regular video viewing (although probably fine for music videos or shorter clips).
Hope this helps.

Re: Which ipod?
Why not "Which MP3 player?" Apple aren't the only Mp3 players available.

I think the size is great, before the Classic, I used to carry a 3rd gen 40GB iPod (which is 1.8cm thick compared to the 1.3cm of the 160GB Classic). The other dimensions are the same though.
The best thing to do is go to a shop and see the actual iPods to get a comparison of sizes. Or, if any friends or colleagues own an iPod, ask them if you can see it and try it out.
I'd assume TV shows would be OK on the nano, but as above I'd suggest you try it out. Obviously if you watch a lot of video, there are other players with bigger screens, but for occasional watching it should be fine. I catch up on TV shows that I record and convert and transfer to my iPod, handy when on the move or waiting for lectures at Uni.

Amazon have it for £204, but I don't know if it is the cheapest.
If you are going on holiday abroad or know somebody who is, you can get it for £194 at Dixons Tax Free.
I got mine for £144 last September from the Apple store as part of their Back To School promotion where students get an £85 rebate if they buy an iPod and a Mac.

Re: Which ipod?
I have a 60gb iPod, great for holding loads of stuff, but in this day and age of diddy little everything, a veritable giant and I find too heavy in my shirt pocket for genuine personal use.
My daughter has a 8gb Nano. Beautiful little gadget.
I have however recently got a Sony NWZ something or other. Admittedly not as cute as the Nano, but by heck, they sound quality is in a different league than any of the Ipods. And if you want to sync with software in the way Itunes does with Ipod, use Mediamonkey (which you can use for your Ipod anyway). It's free, and brilliant.
My advice: if you need the capacity, get the Classic. If sound quality is most important, and capacity not so, get the Sony. If you're flush, get 'em both.

Re: Which ipod?
The 3rd gen Nano has been out for some time, are they likely to bring out a new Nano?
