On the above phone as to the build quality, photo quality, general use etc.

i have had it for around 3 weeks I have to say i am very impressed

built quality seems superb

the colour display is fantastic although it does eat at the battery if you constantly leave it open

photo quality is good, nothing like a digital camera aparently the quality can be hugely improved with decent software

here is one below I took, it has some nice features such as zoom etc

I have been making the most of the IR port with my laptop you can take any pic from the net reduce it to the right size then use it as wallpaper

You can also transfer any midifile to use as a ring tone and then assign a different ringtone to every person in your phone book

the menus are well laid out and the speaker phone is very good

a few minus points

only two games, tetris is quality but the sheep thing is a bit pants

no java so no more games

I haven't found a way to get rid of the operator logo

no blue tooth connection

All in all a fantastic phone

I've had the GD87 for over two months and I'm very happy with it.
The build quality is excellent far superior to any other brand of phone I have ever owned. Sound quality is superb both the earpiece and the handsfree.
The ringtone quality is good but not a feature I use often.
The screen is top quality, brighter than the screen on my GBA SP or NGPC.
Menu driven GUI is easy to use and familiar to anyone who used a Panasonic phone from the previous generation.
Tetris is great. But isn't Tetris always great?
The sub LCD is useful and you can alter the backlight colour to correspond to different types of call.
I'm not a ringtone/logo fan so I've no idea about downloading them.
I only have one gripe - you cannot save a new number directly from the last answered call menu. Couldn't do that on my old Panasonic phone either.

All in all a top phone.

Great build quality
Great screen
Great sound quality
Good compact size
Good speaker phone
Crap picture quality (172x120, but it's a phone not a camera :))
No alarm snooze function (OK, picky here)
Only space for 10 SMS messages (who designed this ???)
Crap menu system

OK, the menu system is not that bad, but it's really poor compared to a Nokia phone. especially when sending SMSs.
And you have to press "OK" sooooo many times......

Finally, if doing something and accidently hitting "hang up", it just loses the SMS or new contact or whatever without warning !!

I like it, but wish i'd waited for the P800......

10 sms??? That must be what your SIM can hold???? you can store them to the phone which holds 200. More than enough surely?

I've also set the text messages function as the shortcut key, quite handy.

True losing a message halfway through is annoying but it was the same on my Z7

I think the pic quality is far superior than the nokia phones I've seen. I also think the menu system is great, very clear. However, I can understand where you are coming from if you are just to Nokia. I went from a nokia 8210 to a Z7 and thought the Sony menu system via the jog dial was far better than the nokia.

I know what you mean about the P800. I only noticed it after I had ordered the Panny and I was wishing I had seen it first. It does sound very cool and has some great features, but after seeing it in the flesh I am glad I went for the Panny, far too chunky for me.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Got hold of one earlier today..can anyone tell me how to copy all the numbers from SIM phonebook to handset phonebook easily & quickly ? Or do you have to copy them over one by one ?

Need to copy numbers from old Simcard to new phone..and then back onto new simcard !!

Cheers

i think you have to do it one by one, unfortunately.

You can buy a usb link to your PC or laptop which comes with software inc phonebook management, ringtones etc.

After 3 days my GD87e has given up the ghost..cannot access the WAP browser either by dialup or via GPRS..keep getting an error msg saying "reception failed", been in contact with Orange Tech supprt since Weds and tried all sorts..went into shop I bought it from today & tried my simcard in their phone & it works straight away. Am now waiting on authority from Orange Tech Support to get a new phone...

Really poor service from Orange once again..seems like they dont understand the Sale Of Goods Act. !! :(

Thats the thing..it did work out of the box..was fine for 3 days..now nothing..Gone through all the settings with Orange CS & TS, they even removed my ID from the GPRS network & signed me up again..nothing..but MMS & e-mail still work..just waiting for Orange TS to give me the go-ahead for a replacement phone now..even though its still within the 28 days I cant change for a new one without their authority..like I said, they dont think the Sale Of Goods Act applies to them..

HI first time posting here! I am having huge problems with my GD87. I cannot download ringtones - the phone just freezes or crashes before I can save the ringtone. Also I can never get the WAP browser to work, not even going onto the Vodophones sites. anyone else had problems like that? I'm wasting so much money on ringtones:(

HI Bobbles, I called Vodaphone and they are sending me a new phone, now if only I could work out how to save my pictures and stuff, I'd be laughing!

i`ve been with orange god knows how many years my first contract was when they had everyday 20 lol thats how long ago i started my contract with them lol,and i have to say in my experience they have always been top notch with me never had 1 problem with customer care at all.

and i scratched my gd87 after a week called them up an claimed on my insurance new phone delivered next day :) i then dropped that 1 down the toilet and again next day i had a new phone, couldnt you have just claimed off the insurance ???

and as for the phone itself the only thing i miss from my nokia is the copy n paste method to get the numbers off my text message instead of rooting around for a pen an paper

Well I got my new phone and managed to upload some of my pictures and ringtone to my PC so I didn't lose them.

One thing I was was wondering was, whether there was a sort of dictionary thing for when you are using predictive text. with Nokia, if you use a word its not familiar with you can save it so you dont have to use the normal way of inputting words.
So far its a real pain as my name is unusual and I'm fed up with having to use the long way round!

also I was wondering what firmware means:confused:

thanks
