View Full Version : WTD: Apple Ipod 20Gb (PC Version)
Guys,
Can anyone recommend a good place to buy one of these, it appears that Apple have tight control on these, as the best price I have seen is £399.
Any ideas?

There's a rumour of an updated model coming out shortly so prices of the older ones might drop drop a little. Other than that you'll be lucky to find anywhere that sells them much below Apple's 'suggested' price.

I've just been doing the very same search myself. Can't find it anywhere for less than £399

The only way to get a cheaper unit is to buy a reconditioned / ex-demo unit directly from Apple. Apple have very good price control on their dealers, they also make a very small margin so there is a limited chance of discount.
Go to the apple web site there is a bargain store, which is only open on, weds. The iPOD is really great; I have a 10gb one and am very happy with it.

Thanks
Typical Apple arrogance assuming that everyone can access these deals on a wednesday.
The IPOD may be the Rolls Royce of MP3 players, but due to the cost may well go the minidisc net route.
I personally just want to get hold of one. I had the 10g PC version on order from Apple but had to cancel the order has they could not get it to me before monday... even though I ordered it a week ago. DABS doesn't have any, John Lewis don't have any. So I think whilst demand is outstripping supply bargains will be hard to come by. But how might The Creative Labs Zen 20g MP3 player compare?

I couldn' wait for the new models to come out so I just bought a 20Gb pc model. I've just ripped about 12 albums at 192kbps and they sound great. I'd been putting this off for ages but it's the best purchase I've done for a long time.
Got it for 380 from my girlfriend who works for microdirect. Although if you fly from terminal 1 heathrow, you can pick up the 10gb version for 280...

As it happens I'm flying into Terminal 1 on Tuesday and out of Terminal 3.
Is it in the duty free dixons?
What do you reckon by one in Heathrow? Or wait til I get to LA?
And stupid question I know. But can you use it directly out of the box, as if you can I may well bring my laptop to download mpgs.

The rumour is (and this is looking quite probable) that two new iPods will be released by the end of the month (a 15 and a 30Gb). They will be supplied with a docking station for charging/syncing. It's also likely that they'll be jointly launched with a new on-line music service.
Personally, I'd wait.
Regards,
Jules (a happy iPod owner).

I seem to recall needing to charge it first. Is an mpgs the same as an MP3?
Regards,
Jules.
Thanks for that. mpgs Yes of course I meant MP3s
BTW phoned Dixons at Heathrow... and like everybody else they are waiting on Apple. I did have one ordered from Apple and as of Thursday that shipment was in Luxembourg coming from Taiwan. Don't know if that's a great big load for everybody. I suspect it is but Apple couldn't guaruntee me delivery before Monday. And I was hoping to have it before then for a 12hr flight.
Oh well. Guess I'll have to put up with whatever music they have on the plane.
