WinFast K7NCR18( Nforce2 )motherboards Help

I've recently built the following Spec PC

K7NCR18 Motherboard
2500 + Processor
Samsung DVD/CDRW
60 gig HD (soon to be matched with another 40Gig HD)
2*256 DDR Ram

Sadly it keeps crashing with Windows XP pro
My friend John (an IT Pro) Thinks it’s a driver fault and tried new M/board drivers + windows updates. But it still crashes

He as also disabled the graphic drivers (using a default driver) which Helps (a little) but it still freezes and crashes.

Also the speakers sometimes omit a Twanging sound (Like an Audio Crash).

I Really Hate PC's and this is not helping I expected such a simple set up to work well!!!!

I have no experience of that particular MB but I had a frequent no ex-planation reboot problem with a board because the ram was in slots 1 & 2 instead of 1 & 3, not mentioned in the manual that this was the desired config...worth a try?

When I built this PC I used slots 1 & 3 but when John checked it (busi body) he changed to to 2 & 3.
The manual says:-

WinFastK7NCR18D/G-Pro Supports memory dual channel access. Please use DIMM1 + DIMM3 or DIMM2 + DIMM3 to get better performance.

So you'd think no problem...... But since I changed it back no crashes ?
