HD-DVD - Widescreen Review Article

Apologies if already posted.

Great article from Widescreen review which explains in a clear fact based way the +'s & -'s of the various HD technologies.

Interesting article...

I didn't know that the US invented television in 1939 though!

Was there not someone called Logie Baird around somewhere?

Oh well.

The Americans, Russians and British/Scottish all claimed to have invented television. Logie Baird's method of trasnmission and reception is not what we now call television.

No, but Marconi in the UK were developing the electronic system alongside Baird and both ran together for testing purposes in 1935 (I think) before the public launch in 1936/37.

There was no public service in the USA or Russia...

yes but we all know that there exists no world outside the USA.

I've read the article, and big deal, doesnt really tell us much that wasnt known already.

Lots of ultra self important po faced guff - the usual bluster from Widescreen Review.

As Jim Royle would say... Holosonic cinema room my arse!

I was trying to be more subtle than you, but our basic message is the same I think...

Interesting Fact. The different country editions of Encarta adjust the facts to suit the target audience. So you can have your cake and eat it depending on which version you are using. Everyone gets to invent TV, Radio, Light bulbs, etc.

What I like about the article is that it made clear the pros & cons of each of the proposed HD systems.

I didn't realise there was going to be such clear water between the Toshiba proposal and the Sony one. I'm firmly in the Blu-Ray camp and hope this succeeds over the DVD Forum plans because their's is not the best solution.

No, but how related are ccd cameras, digital satellite channels and lcd tvs to Marconi's version? Are mobile phones anything to do with Bell's invention?

Before Logi Baird, no-one had captured moving pictures and sent them to a machine that replayed them. I'd say he invented it. Then someone took the idea and thought of a better way of doing it.

Cheers,
Callum.
