Just bougt a SpyderTV, i'll get it in a few days...

I was wondering, i own a 508XD, and i read that the MOVIE mode is closest to D65.....am i then supposed to choose MOVIE before i use the SPYDER, or will the SPYDER ask me to choose the different modes/color temps ?

VTSKL, Im in a similar position, have 508XD and waiting on SyderTV. Ive been doing some reading on the forums the past few days and I think you can start with USER rather than MOVIE. MOVIE is the preset which is closest to D65. As far as I can tell the USER format can be used to get to the same point.

Well guys, did some further testing with my Spyder on my 200 hours 508XD..

I think you should see the STANDARD settings when read with the SPYDER, and values typed in to EXCEL...the color temp i way off....

Check this out..

A also did some testing of Bumtious D65 settings ... They were in the range of 6600K to 7300K, so quite far from the desired 6500K.
If it's because of my TV i dont know, but doubt it.

Well, i did some further tweaking of the D65 settings, i however keep my contrast at 30, thou test patterns (also spyder) recommend it set at 43.

The only difference from Bumtious D65 is actually just the Magenta set to +1 instead of -7.
The result is a color temp. quite close to 6500K all over the scale.....i'm no pro, but i think it's quite well done. The picture really looks fantastic now. Colors are spot on.
Look at the picture below, and notice the color temp's ranging from 10-100% "light"

Any ideas to get even better DeltaE and 6500K results ?

Thr target is NOT 6500K. Your delta errors are actually pretty bad as it looks like you tried to hit 6500K and you shouldn't. Do it again using .3127, .329 as the x,y targets and see what the delta errors look like.

Why bother measuring Bumtious settings. They are irrelevant to all display systems except HIS. They could be perfect on his set and wrong on yours.....

hmm, thougt the target was 6500K since they name them D65 settings ?

I get your point, but everybody in this forum seems to rely on his settings and highly recommend them..

My thougt was that maybe his settings, with the Magenta at -7, had a better Delta value, thou the colors are a bit more cool...

What do i aim for ?....

D65 is a point on the CIE chart specified as
x = 0.3127, y= 0.329 It is the target for the Y channel display on a colour tv set be it for PAL, NTSC, SECAM, HDTV

it just so happens that the correlated colour temperature at the point D65 is just above 6500K. However, there are many points on the CIE chart that have a correlated colour temperature of 6500K.....so you could have a lovely green image that measured 6500K.....

6500K is a red herring...forget it.

Played a bit with the high and low red and blue....
My delta has improved....

Also found a new program that reads directly from the spyder....really cool
