Maybe Im missing something or being a bit dim and I hope someone on here can point me in the right direction.

We use outlook express.
We have three e-mail addresses set up with our ISP lets call them

fred@isp.com
mary@isp.com
john@isp.com

We have 3 users with passwords on the PC Fred, Mary, John.

How do i set the system up so that email addressed to fred only appears in his inbox
Mary's in hers and Johns in his. At present all mail for all ends up in the inbox of the user who logs on first and opens outlook.

If you setup Windows with 3 separate user accounts then each user will also have their own Outlook profile and only receive email addressed to their particular email address. All Outlook Express mailbox information is stored under each user's Documents and Settings folder.

Thanks for your response Windows is set up with three separate user acounts but all mail goes into the inbox of the user who is logged in and opens his inbox first. If this is due to wrong settings where do I change them?

Log on to Windows with the first user name and password.
Open Outlook Express.
Click Tools, Accounts...
Click the Mail Tab
There should be just one account listed, the one for the user that you have logged on as. If there is more than one delete the accounts that are not for the current user. Each user should have a different log on name for their mail account.
Click the Close button.
Log off Windows.

Now repeat the process for the other two users.

If you find that there is only one mail account listed then it may be that the ISP is placing all your mail in to one Inbox and it may also be that you don't have three accounts but have just one with two aliases.

Thanks for your interest. Have done as you suggested

In the mail tab however under account it just says pop.ntlworld.com no mention of any user name or e-mail address. (ISP is ntlworld)

That would suggest you do only have one account set up for each user. If you double click pop.ntlworld.com you will see a properties page with some tabs. On the Servers tab there is an area for Incoming Mail Server where you will see the Account Name and Password fields. The Account Name should be different for each user and is probably the same, or similar, to their e-mail address.

Many Thanks Yes you are right. Its the same in every user account it is the original e-mail address which is mine "Freds". Can I change it in "Marys" and "Johns" user accounts to their e-mail address? Or how otherwise do I go about getting discrete inboxes for the three users of this PC?

Just change both the e-mail address and the account name for each of the users.

or

Delete the accounts for "Mary" and "John" and create new ones with the correct e-mail address, account name and password.

Regret I am not sure what you are saying.

Firstly what do I change the account name pop.ntlworld.com to in outlook exp in the other users windows accounts?

or

again what is the account name and how do I change the password with the isp for these other users?

I am getting confused here between user accounts and e-mail accounts?

Log on to Windows with the first user name and password.
Open Outlook Express.
Click Tools, Accounts...
Click the Mail Tab
Double click the account that is shown to open it's Properties
In the General tab...
In the Name field enter the real name of the user
In the E-mail address field enter the users e-mail address
Click the Servers tab
In the Incoming Mail Server area...
In the Account name field enter the log on name for the user; this may well be the e-mail address.
In the Password field enter the password for the account
Click the OK button to close the window
Click the Close button.
Try and send mail to the user and see if it can be collected after a minute or so.
Log off Windows.

Log on as the next user and repeat the process substituting the new users e-mail address and account name etc.
