Upgrading MA GS10s

Hi All

I'm looking to upgrade my MA GS10s, I have narrowed down the replacements to either the B & W 805S, Wilson Benesch Arcs, or Audiovector Mi1 AV, with a potential outsider in the new MA PL100s. Problem is no one stocks all three to get a comparison demo. I'm only looking to standmounts, upto £2500 budget. They will be BiAmped with MF A5 Int and A5CR Power combo, MF KW SACD, Audioquest Cheetah or Chord Chameleon Silver Plus IC. Other question is I need to upgrade the spkr cable from Chord Carnival Silver plus, what would you suggest for my source equipment?

Thanks

Tim

Hello Tim,

Why have you decided to upgrade your Monitor Audio GS10's?

The MA GS10's are a perfect match in my opinion for the MF A5 Int and A5 Pwr amp. As you are biamping with the A5 Int controlling the treble section, and the A5cr Pwr amp doing the bass department there will be less coloration and better separation.

Like you I also use the a MF A5 amp, but I am using the A5 Pre and Pwr,and maybe also thinking of changing my spks to the MA GS20's in the near future, as so many members that i have spoken to, say that the MA and MF are a perfect combination due to the spks fast, clinical and bright sound and MF amps slightly fuller and refined sound.

Have you got any good or bad points that you wish say about the MA speakers for you to change?

Also what sort of music do you normally listen to?

Good luck

Re: Upgrading MA GS10s

Hi

Yep Im using the A5 Int for Treble and the A5CR for bass. However I'm thinking the question, can a £800 pair of speakers do justice to a 3k amp setup and 4k CD player (or even my Marantz SA15 at £1100) ? Maybe I feel there is something more from my system and the speakers are the weakest link.

Tim....I would agree with your assesment of the system as it is....you have several thousand pounds worth of front end being served by speakers that whilst perfectly reasonable, are not in the same performance league.

Your choice of speakers to audition is a good start, and you could add the Revel M22,JM Focal Electra and perhaps the Acoustic Energy AE 1 to the list,to get a decent spread of standmounters with differing sounds.

Re: Upgrading MA GS10s

I guess my question would be will you actually hear £2500 difference between your gs10's and whatever else you buy..?

Tim

MF A5 and MA GS10 would be perfect match. GS10 is brightness mini monitor. IMO, you can change chord to crystal cable and a tube CDP would help.

Re: Upgrading MA GS10s

I heard the Proac Response D Two a few weeks ago on the end of a Primare system and they sounded superb. Very detailed, with excellent bass. I think they're around the £1,800 mark.

I have also heard good things from a friend about the Kudos C10 - I think these are about £2,500.
