Re: decent dvd drive

I've always had good experiences with the pioneer slot-loading DVD drives but they don't seem to be doing one at the moment, perhaps their tray loading ones will be equally good?

Re: decent dvd drive

I would have thought any modern SATA drive would be fine...

I think mine is LG.

My 3 year old PC has a Pioneer DVD Drive which has never failed to read any disk that I have put in it - it is a tray loading one by the way.

Cheers,

Martin.

Re: decent dvd drive

I have had a couple of Lite-on drives, and they have never failed me and seem to be able to read pretty much anything I throw at it.

I did change over to LG once and had problems with it. It wouldn't read the disks that I burnt with the Lite-on sometimes and produced much higher errors.

So Lite-on +1
LG -1

btw with Lite-on drives, you can check errors using Nero DVD-Speed. With others you can't.

Re: decent dvd drive

If the OP is referring to PC DVD drives being picky about some discs then the way a computer drive works is different to a DVD player in the fact that the scratched movies that play in the DVD player won't play in the PC due to the way the data is read and handled.
