Which Lense

Hey Guys

I bought a canon 400d a couple of weeks back as i've decided i want to get more into photography. I'm going to head over to le mon for the 24hr race and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what sort of lense i'd need if i wanted to take motorsport shots mainly at night!

Re: Which Lense

uh , Budget?

IMO night motorsport photog of moving cars is more the area of major ££££.

Minimum 70-200f2.8 L and ISO 800+

Unless you can get close enough to use a cheper fast prime or taking static shots on tripod.

Re: Which Lense

Reckon all you need to know will be here. If not, it's good start.
As for shooting at night, reckon that will be more about the techniques to employ rather than the type of lens.
Le Mans though? Nice.

Re: Which Lense

well i think the max i'd be willing to spend at the mo is £400. I can buy it from the US as i have relatives there so that might help me get some more bang for the buck

i've been looking around different websites about techniques. Having alot of fun at the moment just playing around with the settings

I've never been to le mans before so hopefully it should be cool

Re: Which Lense

Given your budget.... for around £350 you can get a 70-200 F4L which would be good but if you need more reach (which you will IMO) you can get the 70-300 F4-5.6 IS which is about £330 now I think... Slower lens but it has IS and more reach. Neither are f2.8 but if you're gonna be doing motorsport shots then I'd guess you will be panning mainly and so you won't want very fast shutter speeds.

I went to Le Mans in 2006 and am going again next year. It's a really great experience.
