Accessing Laptop HD from PC

I have a laptop here thats got a completely mangled Windows and is refusing to boot.

I was going to remove the hard drive from the laptop and stick it in my PC and copy off the files that I want to back up and then reinstall the drive back into the laptop and reformat and reinstall Windows.

But, I am wondering.... is there a magic program I can run off CD on the laptop that will enable my PC to access the laptops hard drive via ethernet so I dont have to screw around with the hardware??

You could try one of the Linux Live CDs, something like Ubuntu.

Yeah do that, share a directory on your other computer and copy files across. You can then determine if the laptop HD is borked, or just the OS.
