In built AV amp in subwoofer melted... now what?

Hello, noob question here. I have an AEGO M 2.1 system which recently died on me. (outside warranty period as well)
The sub had inbuilt amps which powered the satellite speakers, and it has burnt... leaving me with an ampless, otherwise intact, subwoofer and 2 satellite speakers.

Repairs would cost a bum, i would imagine... Thus, I was just wondering if the AEGO's amp was replaceable with something else, so i could salvage the sub.

Help plz?

I would think a repair is out of the question. However, have you contacted Acoustic Energy?

Ask them (very, very nicely) if they can help. By help I mean give you replacement, or a discount on some new kit. Tell them what's happened and just ask for help.

It might work.

Yes, I have emailed them again hoping for good advice... Meanwhile, is it possible to get a replacement for the subwoofer? Even if the woofer cant be repaired, is it possible to stick a sub amp in it, and get a separate AV amp?

Please help me... Im so sad

Re: In built AV amp in subwoofer melted... now what?

It's not impossible. But only if a) you do it yourself, or, b) a friend does it for you. The hourly rates a tachnician would have to charge makes it in reality not practical (that's even if you could find one).

The product almost certainly came from China; there are probably no spares kept in this country; which means these sort of products are essentially throw-away items. I know it doesn't sound very sensible but that's new the global world for you ...

The original retailer might be able to help. Have you tried?

Re: In built AV amp in subwoofer melted... now what?

Received an email response from the people at Acoustic Energy, telling me to go find a hifi repair shop, so i did.. only to find that they could not order spare parts for me... So its a no go from that angle.

About fixing in my own AV amp... yea I wouldnt mind doing that myself... I am used to fixing up computers and stuff, but havent tried a speaker before... hmm. So, I have came up with 3 solutions, please correct me if I'm wrong.

1) Incorporate a new AV amp into my Aego subwoofer?

2) Buy another subwoofer with an inbuilt AV amp, or a 2.1 system that can be expanded to a 4.1, so that I can make use of the Aego satellite speakers? Any recommendations?

3) Buy a new dedicated AV amp and live without a subwoofer for now.... until i can find enough dough to get one. Plan for the future ^^

ATM, my budget can only stretch to 60 quids this month with some starving. Any recommendations?

(I cant live w/o good music... I use my laptop to listen to all types of music from classical to speed metal.... also watch movies ALOT and play games occasionally)

Just a thought. Try ebay for a complete replacement. There are a few Aego's on there. Don't know if they are the same model though.

OK. Sorry I can't help but just another thought. You might get better response if you post this under "Speakers" or "Subwoofers". It's not really an Audio Processor or Power Amp in the true sense, so it could be that those who could help haven' seen your post.

Why not buy something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/eltax-powered-...QQcmdZViewItem

Cheap as chips!

Or just buy a second hand surround sound amplifier for £50 you can then upgrade the speakers, sub etc over time.

Keep an eye on ebay, there are lots of bargains out there.

Re: In built AV amp in subwoofer melted... now what?

But i wouldnt know what is good and whats not on ebay....
Theres lots of choices there but some of them are just lousy like Levv or other generic brands liddat... and i am such a noob that i cant pick out the good ones.

Is the eltax one as good as the Aego?

Also, which av amp bodes well with the satelite speakers of the Aego? Mine is a 240V model, 90 watt RMS... frequency of satellites are 250Hz-25kHz
