Lost Bookmarks / Favorites

Chaps,

My laptop running XP will not remember any of my favorites ( IE ) or bookmarks ( firefox ) after shutdown. Is there a simple setting that needs to be tweaked to rectify this?

Now that does seem like a strange problem.

So I take it that you add sites to your favourites and when you close IE down, they are no longer saved?

In all my years as an I.T Techie I have never come across that problem.

I have had a play on my XP and Vista machine trying to replicate your problem to no avail im afraid. I have done some research too and couldn't find anyone else with that same problem.

a weird problem indeed, I suppose you have already tried the usual virus/spyware scans? you could try running HiJackthis and see if that shows anything unusual. only other thing I can think of is the Registry may have got corrupt or it is pointing at the wrong folder for your favourites.

Have you checked the folder where the favorites are located to see if, when you add a favorite, it is actually added to the list?

For IE it's in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Favorites not sure about FF as I tend to use Opera.

When I tried to help you out by replicating your problem, I tried moving the favourites folder out from the C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\ folder to see if that was the problem but doing so still allowed XP to add favourites to the folder, even though it wasn't in the default directory.

Let us know how you get on tonight by checking the above directory and see if the Favourites folder is there
