I've just come across this article on ukfree.tv:

"And it now seems that Channel 4 has appeared free to air on the Astra 2D satellite, on transponder 42, just three weeks before the launch of Freesat (UK)."
The writer seems very confident of the launch date; I only wish he'd given more details.
Incidentally, there's another article (I don't think it's been mentioned here) claiming that "BBC Freeview services to drop 33% in quality in 09", see:
