Smile Prog fans: Guess the keyboard player and win a CD!

Hi there,

my good friends from the instrumental prog band Relocator have almost
completed work on their debut CD. Despite working on the album for over
two years, they still haven't found a permanent keyboard player. So in
the end a very special guest was brought in to play all the keyboard solos.

The identity of that guest will be revealed shortly, but until then you can win one
of five copies of the CD if you can guess who it is from the sound samples.

For further details please check out the blog over at www.myspace.com/relocator

And PLEASE: Don't post your guesses here! I will be watching this thread and it'd
be great to get some discussion going, but if you're going to guess, send your guess
via email (see the blog for details) and don't spoil the game by posting it here!

Thanks,
Michael

Trouble is, I can't tell the difference between keyboards and synthed guitar. Has my prog mojo left the building?

Re: Prog fans: Guess the keyboard player and win a CD!

Dave, what do you mean by "synthed guitar"? A synth sounding like a guitar?

To clarify: This medley of samples starts with a short trade-off section (sequence: guitar, keys, guitar, keys), otherwise it's all keyboard leads with the guitars just playing underneath. The guy who played this does tend to use a pretty guitar-like sound, yeah.

Re: Prog fans: Guess the keyboard player and win a CD!

I mean (at least I think I mean) a guitar that's run through some sort of synthesizer.

But I could be talking out my fundamental.

If what I'm hearing is keyboards rather than guitar, the style is familiar but I can't put my finger on it. If it had been guitar, I'd have said it was Zappa returned from whichever exalted part of heaven he now gigs in.

Hi there,

better late than never (we wanted to have new samples available on the MySpace page
first) we can finally follow up the "guess the keyboard player" competition with the
official announcement of the guest star on the Relocator debut album.

A short preview medley taken from several songs is now available
http://www.myspace.com/relocator - enjoy!

Quote:
RELOCATOR announce special guest Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater, Planet X)
for their self-titled debut album to be released July 4th.

30 April 2008

Get ready to relocate: More than two years in the making, the self-titled RELOCATOR debut album will be available on July 4th. Influenced by both modern and classic artists like UK, Planet X, Rush and Allan Holdsworth, the band have developed their own style and worked hard on making their first CD a memorable debut for all fans of instrumental progressive rock worldwide.

Adding his distinctive keyboard style to the RELOCATOR debut is special guest star Derek Sherinian. Derek played with rock legends Kiss and Alice Cooper even before really stepping into the spotlight during his four years with progressive metal titans Dream Theater. More recently he's become known for a string of exciting solo albums each featuring some of the world's most famous guitarists as well as for his live appearances with the Billy Idol band.

Derek Sherinian plays all keyboard solos on the album and his experience with the self-proclaimed "sickest instrumental band in the world", Planet X, makes his style a perfect fit for the music. Unlike many other guest appearances, his involvement here is not limited to just one track – in fact, there is more of his soloing on the RELOCATOR CD than on the last Planet X album "Quantum". The opportunity to stretch out on extended solo sections resulted in some of his finest playing on record. All fans of Derek's style are in for a real treat!

The RELOCATOR CD will be available directly from the band on July 4th with other distribution channels to be announced soon. Until then stay tuned for more preview samples, complete tracks and the odd video!

All the best,
Michael
