Power Factor Correction (PFC)

Do we need a Power Factor Correction for our AV equipment and PC?
I'm asking this because i want to buy a UPS, to protect my AV equipment and PC's, and i havent decided if it must be a Line Interactive or a Double Conversion On Line UPS.

Line Interactive have the following advantages:
More reliability because they have fewer parts and lower operating temperatures.
Lower initial cost (fewer parts) and lower operating cost (less electricity).

The disadvantages of Line Interactive are:
No PFC. Extreme voltage distortions can require frequent battery usage.
No output frequency configuration.
Larger and heavier.

So the main reason for buying Line Interactive or Double Conversion On Line UPS, is the need or not of PFC.

Re: Power Factor Correction (PFC)

I don't know anything about UPS, but the PFC would only be needed large commercial installations. The electric suppliers can fine you if you don't correct and have a strange load.

Dupe...

Re: Power Factor Correction (PFC)

You know, I haven't seen power factor mentioned as an issue in a domestic setting since I did an electrical engineering course decades ago! Normally anything with a motor built in has power factor correction built-in, too. If the kit you get doesn't correct the power factor that's your gain and the power company's loss. I really, really wouldn't worry about it

Re: Power Factor Correction (PFC)

So you are saying that we don't need PFC for a Home Cinema and for PC's?
Because if that is true then i will be OK with a Line Interactive instead of a Double Conversion On Line UPS.
