Can anyone tell me what the resolution of the above are? Will any of them be the full 1080p? Also, Freesat states that it will support 5.1. Do either of the others supports this?

Many thanks in advance!

I would expect HD Freeview to be in 1080i50 as are all the HD broadcasts on Sky HD. Freesat HD will use the same broadcasts that are currently available on Sky HD i.e. BBC HD and C4 HD. I expect ITV HD to follow suit. Quite a lot of HD films and programmes are in 5.1 although by no means all.

As Dutch says Dsat (SKY and Freesat) is pretty much a given as 1080i/50 however on DTT who the hell knows, OFCOM surely don't.

Freeview HD was launched in New Zealand this month. So far both 720p and 1080i have been used. I would expect the UK to use the same but with the introduction of MPEG4-AVC broadcasts 1080p may happen in the future.

Do you mean that NZ are using MPEG2 for their Freeview HD, and then moving to MPEG4 (as used in the UK) later on? That seems a bit shortsighted.

No, I mean NZ is already using MPEG4. The receiver is expensive but now that it is operating somewhere I'm sure other countries will see the advantage of better compression.
It means either HD broadcasts or they can cram more SD broadcasts on the same mux.

People won't like it when they find their supposedly HD ready TV can't receive HD Freeview and they need yet another box under the TV.

From what I can remember of the OFCOM carve up that is freeview HD. It is only going to be broadcast in 720 lines resolution cos they have not got the bandwidth required to do the job properly.
