No web browsing on tv using iPhone

Just connected the iPhone to a tv using the Apple composite cables and was shocked to find that only videos (iPod function) and youtube videos can be viewed on a tv.
Web browsing (using Safari) on the tv is NOT possible. THIS SUCKS

Is this also true for the component cables ?

Has the iPhone been restricted so that web is only possible on the phone.

I can't view photos on the tv either.

So why are Apple charging £40 for a cable that is only good for video out and charging ONLY ?

I've done some searching online, but I appear to be the only one who wants to connect the iPhone to a Plasma or LCD and surf the web.
Any info or hack to allow FULL tv out would be cool.
