Over the last few weeks, I have been auditioning each of the major networks PAYG offerings in my unlocked 1.1.4 Iphone.

Over the last few days, I've been trying O2 PAYG. To my delight, it was the only one to actually get a signal in my office, and even shows an 'E' indicating an Edge signal - not bad, as I work in an industrial estate out in the country. However, I simply cannot connect to the web. Even when there is no Edge signal, I can't connect via GPRS either. I get an error message saying that I don't subscribe to Edge. After much googling, I find differing opinions - some say GPRS / Edge doesn't work on O2 PAYG - others say it does. I find it odd that O2 offer a data bolt-on for PAYG, if they block internet access?

Can anyone advise if they can get PAYG net browsing working on O2, what settings to put in the Edge settings (I've tried all I can find - no joy).

The only other network I've found with any Edge access and reasonable signal quality - Orange - will give me Edge access as long as I stand half a mile outside my office, but it is VERY expensive (I blasted through a £5 topup in as many minutes) but can't get a signal at all IN my office - rendering it pretty much useless. T-Mobile would always register a nearly full signal everywhere but at work (where it registered no signal at all), but call quality was terrible and no GPRS or EDGE anywhere. The same for Vodafone.

I used to have an O2 payg phone when EDGE was spanking new, worked quite happily. My guess is your settings are wrong or you need to call up O2 to get them to allow it on the account.
