Disc Fragmenter

Hi, all. I have a problem with my system. Recently I cleaned out all the cookies and ran a reg cleaner. Since then I have not been able to use my disc defragmenter. Each time I select it it comes back with a message " disc fragmenter could not start " I like to defragment at least twice a month but unable to carry out the task. Is there something easy preventing me from starting the defragmenter or is it more sinister. Any help is good help, soukio...:thumbsup:

I've come across this problem related to Page File being disabled.

Check to make sure you have it on.

Right click on "My Computer" (on your desktop)
then click on "Properties"

At the "System Properties" window that is shown,
click on "Advanced", "Settings" button under the "Performance" title

Click on the "Advanced" tab under "Performance Options"
Then, click on "Change" under "Virtual Memory"

Check the "No paging file" to make ensure it's not ticked.



Your page file should be about 1.5 times the size of your RAM.
I think "System Managed Size" will automatically set it to 1.5 times.

If the above fails just boot from the Windows XP installation disk and choose the option to Repair, this should restore the defragger back to its default state.
