Just been in Carphone Whorehouse looking at iPhones. Wasn't thinking of buying yet anyway, 3G is around the corner. The guy in there told be anyway not to buy, wait until July, nudge nudge wink wink!

yes I agree, it's a bit like PC World and Apple Macs, fun though. Wouldn't buy anything from them though.

Couldnt agree more, the "3G iphone in June" rumours arent really new insider information.

I got told to wait until 2010 for the 4G octoband version with 2 touchcreeens and built in dishwasher

Yea, that guy will know nothing more than anyone else knows. The June/July timeframe is common knowledge. When the 16GB was released I was in a CPW on the day, and none of them knew about it, and when the guy looked it up he thought it would be months before it got released in the UK, they got their delivery the next day, lol. I also doubt CPW staff are privy to Apple inside info, requiring them to sign the Apple non-disclosure agreement. In short, CPW staff are MOD EDIT

there was a post on engadget about someone from apple saying something about the 3g phone being available in 60 days, and then the following day the same guy from apple said he was only joking or something, so from that quote it's sparked a bunch of rumours

in other news, the updated version of the processor that the iphone uses is capable of 3g

Another note, the latest firmware update for the 2.0 beta contains a reference to a 3G HSPDA chipset

Just ask yourself, why would anyone in a shop whose primary role is to sell stuff to tell you to go away and come back in 2 months!?

That is just so incredible and just plain daft... Especially since most are on a commission as well.

Because they don't make any money on the sale of an iPhone. O2 and Apple make all the dosh. The commission is in the Contracts which you don't sign up to in the shop.

absolutely not true they give cashback money through quidco referrals so they definitely have sales margin on the iPhone.

I meant 'real' money, not just the retailer profit margin markup. He would rather sell you a 'free' phone with contract. He will make more on his commision on that I guess.

I do not understand your comment about real money. They still have more than what is given away to other sales agents. And them there is the usual cross selling at cpw which earn more than any phone contract. But then what I don't get, and let's assumeyou are right then why send someone away because there is no real money to be made on the iPhone to come back in two months time when there is still no money to be made. A good sales person would sell something now on which there is money to be made. That is the purpose of a sales person to sell! To make as much as they can get for the company and in return if they do well they get money.
