Freeview Please Help?

Hello

I have just bought one of those lovely pink Sony 20" LCD TV's for my bedroom with a built-in Freeview box.

I have a roof AERIAL which currently is plugged into the TV in my sons bedroom accross the landing. He has an ok picture on the analogue TV. So I bought an extension cable and ran it to my new TV. The analogue picture is awful and it is not finding any digital channels when it seraches. Can anyone suggest a solution

I live in NE31 and I am pretty sure we are getting digital signals I might be wrong. Also if I need a new AERIAL can anyone suggest a good one at not too dear a price.

Thanks so much

Michelle

Re: Freeview Please Help?

plug the sony in to your sons ariel point to see if you pick up a signal there. I d guess you won't get digital off your current ariel and would need to get a digital approved ariel.

Re: Freeview Please Help?

Postcode into this website to check what type of aerial you need at a height of ten metres at your location.

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

Also - take your TV into your son's bedroom and try it there with the aerial connection direct from the aerial. See if it will pick up the freeview channels there.

If it doesn't then the aerial signal is not good enough. You may need an amplified outdoor aerial. If it does pick up freeview then signal may be OK but weak. Try a TV booster the two outlet type. This in place of a splitter. One coax connection to your son's TV, other coax connection to the co-ax cable you have leading to your own room.

Even with a booster you may have too much loss on the co-ax extention. Don't use a longer cable than necessary. If still weak in your bedroom then try an additional booster (a one outlet type which gives the highest gain).

The above are only try it and see solutions. If results are still bad you may still need an amplified aerial feeding the two (or more) rooms.

Re: Freeview Please Help?

Argos also sell TV boosters.

This one should be suitable to increase the aerial signal to your bedroom :

Re: Freeview Please Help?

Aerial boosters are only good if you have some sort of reasonable picture to start with. They will not help with stations that are not receiving. A good digital aerial is your best bet and will ensure good pictures on all chanels.
