optoma hd65 connection problem

Hi All

I hope someone can help with this one. I any trying to connect up my optoma hd65 with the dvi cable that feeds into the back of my Pioneer XDE436 plasma. Its the older style plasma that has a seperate media box (upstairs) with all the cables connected to it and a 9m dvi cable and control cable to my screen.

I do get a picture on my projecter but only for a second or so. Then the picture freezes and locks again for a second or so and so it goes on.

I'm thinking it something to do with syncing the 2 together.
is there something i can do or buy to overcome this problem?, maybe using the component or vga connections.

Thanks for reading this
