Faulty memory?

Came home yesterday to a beeping computer. Tried restarting but resulted in either more beeping or attempting to boot but getting stuck at the first screen with a pixelated screen.

Recently upgraded (last week) the ram from 2 x 512mb to 2 x 1gb, worked fine for a few days before last night but swapped them back over and the computer is now running as it should.

Is the ram faulty then, its corsair value ram as thats what ccl reccomended, should i upgrade to more expensive ram when i return these sticks.

Re: Faulty memory?

specs of your motherboard and the memory you purchased would be useful.

personally i would run some memory diagnostic software on your newly purchased memory, something like www.memtest.org

Re: Faulty memory?

New memory wont even boot the pc anymore, the new sticks are the same spec as the old ones just bigger memory (DD2 5300, cant remember speed but its in the 600's). Took them back today and his tests are saying they are ok but if they wont boot my pc then there obviously not. He's keeping them in over night, i only bought them on 26/03 so am i right in thinking i can have a refund no matter what his tests say.

Think i'll stick to more expensive ram, only went for these because the guy in the store said not to bother with the expensive stuff.

Re: Faulty memory?

to a certain extent the person is right, browsing the net, emailing, using Word then yeah you dont have to be too picky with your memory.

Also, Corsair Select memory is very good quality, think they even come with a Corsair lifetime guarantee, or is that another memory manufacturer im thinking of?
