Starship Troopers & Bush vs. Saddam Hussein
Is it me or is the news coverage of the Iraq crisis remarkably similar to the way the war is reported in the film "Starship Troopers".....scary....

Good point well made. It just makes me think of Starship Troopers everytime I see that link on the war on Sky News with all the explosions.

Ok, ok, so it's not exactly the same language used. I was talking more about the style it is presented to us in. The way we are fed with information in a similar manner and graphics used

I havent seen it, but FOX News network apparantly has a graphic of a Bald Eagle flying towards the screen with missles shooting out of it's wings. Now that isn't Starship Troopers I know, but is the product of a "great" imagination

The U.S. coverage is. I was watching a clip the other day from U.S. TV and thought the whole thing was a parody for a short while. The use of music/dramatic commentary is so OTT.

I tend to watch BBC news for 30mins then switch over to FOX for some light hearted entertainment.
My fave FOX quote so far
Discussing the "Rules of War" in a special sub-segment after POW's suspected to be killed -
"So then xxxxxxx can these lowdown goofball Iraqi's be tried for warcrimes?"
Quite how they manage to get away with such an unbiased and politically correct news channel is beyond me.

a little off topic maybe, but does anyone know if sales of Conflict Desert Storm (XBox, PS2, PC) gone up in the last week?
the local video shop has five copies and they have been out solidly for the last week. maybe players think the news coverage is just a really good "cut scene"?

I don't know about this, but I have noticed an absolute load of advertising in the papers for things like those Book Clubs who are promoting all the Andy McNab novels, and those collectables companies who normally sell those novelty figurines, who are now just advertising collectable model planes used over the years in conflict.
Wars being used for financial gains....brilliant....
