Will my Mac work in the US?

Hi there, I have a 2 year old Intel Mac desktop and I was wondering if it will work in the US or do I need to modify it in anyway or use a transformer?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Will my Mac work in the US?

I doubt Apple builts a model for 110 V and one for 220 V. My guess is there is either a switch inside or outside the device. Did you ask Apple directly how to achieve this?

Re: Will my Mac work in the US?

I have a feeling they are auto-switching.

Tenex, excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that if I use an ordinary adaptor and switch it on, it should automatically work in the US?

Re: Will my Mac work in the US?

Apple sell the plug ends in all international styles so you could save the use of an adaptor by buying a new wall plug end for your existing mains adaptor.

I believe they are auto switching but a call to Apple support/or an Apple store will confirm it for you.

Re: Will my Mac work in the US?

Most switch mode power supplies these days (which is what computers use) accept a wide range of inputs. I think it will say somewhere on your iMac what its power requirements are (possibly in small hard to read writing, or moulded into the plastic near the mains inlet, or on the bottom of the stand). Most likely it will say something like 100-250V 50-60~ If so, just plug it in anywhere in the world. (USA is 110V 60~, UK 230V 50~)
