Hello,
I'm new to these forums as you can see. I'm not sure if I have posted this in the correct section. I have a few questions and wanted up to date answers. I'm am looking at buying a new TV 37" to 42" and don't know what to get. My questions are;

1. I've heard plasma has screen burn. How bad is this because I am going to be playing my Xbox 360 on it which will mean that health bar etc will stay in the same place.

2. Response time on LCD is not good to me and to have such a big LCD I think it will show even more. Also dead pixels are annoying.

3. There are alot of things to watch out for now i.e. 1080P/24 FPS. Does the 24FPS feature make a noticable difference when watching Blu Ray?

4. Are there any other things to watch out for like 10bit processing?

5. What TV has it all at a reasonable price? I'm moving towards plasma because of the deeper blacks and response time.

Ok thanks to anyone who answers my questions :)

Its definite that for SD plasma is the clear winner, from the time though you play games I would suggest an lcd as a more safe and better choice. Also you will need 24p for smooth blu ray playback.Whats your max budget to suggest you the best?

It depends more on if the TV is worth it. But I guess something like £1000 (About $2000). But anything under is better.

Well the best all rounder is the Sony KDL-40V3000 for only below £700 which has got very positive owner comments or the Toshiba 42Z3030

Do these have the 24 FPS option because I am going to watch blu rays on it. Also does 100 hz TVs make any difference?

CHRISGEO

Yep both have 24p compatibility with the sony having the best 24p system,as Z3030 has a little strange 5:5 pulldown.both though will not have a problem.100Hz help on fast moving scenes like football

Thanks, the Sony looks nice although I can't find the refresh rate on it. Any idea what it is? Great deal at £715 on amazon.
Also Sony seem a little less colourful than Samsungs to me?

the 40V3000 refresh rate is 50Hz not 100Hz.What do you mean by less colourful? You mean the the colors reproduction? To me the V3000 colors are excellent and lifelike

Its not even 60 hz? Some games on 360 need 60hz to play :(. Is there any TV that is like the sony specs wise but 100hz? Also does it support HDMI 1.3?

The Toshiba Z series is 100hz.

It looks nice. How does the 5:5 pull down work? Will that be the same?

I personally do not have any issues with it. It looks fine to me. Others do though. Can't really say more than that. Sorry.:)
This may explain.24 FPS Compatible with 5:5 pull-down From a 24 frames per second input the image processing replicates the exact frames in sets of 5 to virtually eliminate 'Film Judder' artefacts.

The sony has a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 16,000:1 and the toshiba 6500:1. I know that the specs are not always true but won't this make a difference when watching?

Shouldn't worry about the stated contrast ratios. They are mostly all exagerated anyway. The Z is a dream to watch, and like I have posted before, I have had my Z & my neighbours Sony 40V3000 set up side by side, both fed with the same Blueray material from PS3, and the Z came out on top:thumbsup: The neighbour was a bit miffed, but agreed he was beat on this ocassion!!

Ah that makes me happier about my decision on getting the tosh.

The thing that is annoying me is the response time on LCD. I've seen alot of LCD TVs and they blur far too much for me. First person shooter games blur really bad on LCD TVs. What are the choices for me in plasma? What lasts longer plasma or LCD?

I use my 42Z with a PS3 & Xbox 360, and on fps games, I don't get any blurring with it. In fact no blurring at all!!

The Toshiba may be better but from the sites I have looked at its a lot more expensive then the sony one. Whats the cheapest you have found the Toshiba one?

I think is just a case of searching the net, high street shops, and maybe Tosh direct. See what offers you can find. You never know, you may get lucky!!

Ok i'll look around. You said something about people having trouble with the 5:5 pull down. What did you mean by that?
Sorry if i'm asking too many questions but I don't want to spend £1000 and regret it after.

Ooh, now your asking!! Best thing would be to read through the following thread: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=612812&highlight=42z3030
If you do a member search for Mentasm (I think????) That was a user not happy with it. Others do not see what he/she does, myself being one of them:)

This TV does seem to have everything I want. I'll have a look at it in store tomorrow and see what I think. I bet I will have more questions then . To be honest I would have never guessed people would pick Toshiba over all the others. It should be a great improvement over my Philips 26PF5321. Not that Philips is a bad brand because I think they are great.

I was a Philips fanatic too. Used to have top of the range Philips CRT, Philips hard drive recorder, Philips 5:1 dvd surround sound etc, etc. My first LCD was Philips too. Was a bit reluctant to go with another brand. Glad I did though now:thumbsup:

The XF is the picture frame version of the X series, which does not have all the functions of the Z series.

Thanks for all your help people. I have another question . If Xbox 360 games are 720P when you select 1080P on the Xbox 360 the picture will be upscaled. Will that reduce the picture quality? I hope its nothing like DVD upscaling...
