I currently have a Panasonic PX70 50 inch plasma (not 1080p) and am looking to upgrade to 1080p, with a minimum screen size of 50 inch (ideally a couple more, viewing distance 12 ft plus).

I have been trying to do a bit of research, but there are just so many possibilities. I am willing to wait 2 or 3 months if there are any potential star tv's on the horizon.

So, can anyone point me in the direction of the top 2 or 3 sets I should be looking at with a budget in mind of £4000. I will be sharing my time equally between an external topfield freeview pvr, ps3 blu-ray and toshiba xe1 for hd-dvd. Audio quality is not an issue since I have an external sound system.

Thanks for any suggestions (apart from saying look at plasma, I am only looking for lcd information).

If only I had such a big budget.well the best LCD currently on the market is the Sony KDL-52X3500 and also with the money left you can get a home cinema

TBH I would stick with plasma for that kind of size.

plasma is probably your best best, the toshiba 57Z is pretty nice too. you dont need to spend £4k for a good big tv though, £2500 will be enough. If you are willing to wait the biggest of the new toshiba ZF series would be very good, think they will be doing a 56ZF which would be very tasty. the sony X3500 series are good too, biggest 1 of those are nice, new sonys coming soon too though.

I personally would wait for 2 months for the new toshibas and sonys and compare them to the best large plasma. But remember plasma use are 70% more electricity, for a 42" lcd its around 210watts, plasmas are around 370watts for same size.

I'd give the Samsung 52LE96 a look if I were you as well as the Sony 52X3500. I'm afraid you'll have a bit of change left over though;). I reckon you could get the Samsung and a Panasonic PT-AE2000 projector for your full £4k budget and have the best of both worlds;).

Cheers,
